I am having recurring BSOD's in Windows 7 Professional 64Bit -- several a day -- all due to "Page Fault in Nonpaged Area."  BlueScreenView suggests that these are related to em008_64.dat (ESET Smart Security 7), ATMFD.DLL (Adobe), and BHDrvx64.sys (Norton 360) drivers.   As a bit of history, I began having recurrent BSOD's ("Page Fault in Nonpaged Area") with Windows 7 the day I bought my new Dell XPS 8500 2.5 years ago.  Thinking initially it was a memory problem, I pulled the Dell supplied RAM and replaced it with 32GB of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600MHz memory, upgrading to Windows 7 Professional in the process.  This had no impact, and the BSOD's continued.  I solicited help from a costly web tech site, who also were unable to resolve my problem through remote troubleshooting of my machine.  I lived with the frustrating problem of multiple BSOD's per day for 2.5 years, until I finally couldn't take it anymore.  Thinking it must be hardware related, I decided to start over and build a new rig -- cannibalizing only a few components from my former Dell XPS 8500 (the 32GB of RAM, i7-3770 CPU, and DVD burner).  The computer I built this past weekend is as follows:

Operating System:  Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
CPU:  Intel Core i7 3770 @ 3.40GHz 30 °C
RAM:  Corsair XMS3 32.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 686MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard:  ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z77-A (LGA1155) 30 °C
Graphics:  2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (ASUStek Computer Inc) 33 °C
Power Supply:  Corsair CX750 - 750W
CPU Cooling:  Antec Kuhler H20 650
Storage:
 232GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250G (SSD) 27 °C
 232GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250G (SSD) 26 °C
 1863GB Western Digital WDC WD2002FAEX-007BA0 (SATA) 47 °C
 298GB Western Digital WDC WD3200JS-60PDB0 (SATA) 42 °C
Optical Drives:
 DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device
 PLDS DVD+-RW DH-16ACS
 HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH14NS40
Audio:  Realtek High Definition Audio

After building the new rig, I flashed the ASUS BIOS with the latest available for the motherboard from the manufacturer's website, and then updated all outdated drivers using Smart Driver Updater.  I also ran all available Windows 7 Pro updates.  The reward for all of this work . . .  the BSOD's have returned.   Always the same "Page Fault in Nonpaged Area", though the offending drivers identified by BlueScreenView change from time to time.

For my new rig, I initially loaded Norton 360 for virus protection.  The first BSOD's I began experiencing identified BHDrvx64.sys -- related to Norton 360 -- so I uninstalled the program using the Norton Uninstaller, and then installed ESET Smart Security 7 as the replacement antivirus program.  However, soon thereafter, I began experiencing BSOD's from em008_64.dat, which apparently is related to the ESET antivirus.  I'm at a loss at what to do next.  I've run SFC Scannow, with no problems identified.  I performed Memtest86 with no problems identified.  My CPU and GPU temperatures are all OK, and nothing is overclocked.  I've scanned my computer with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware and nothing was detected.  My boot drive is a brand new Samsung SSD.  I just don't think this is a hardware related problem, but my random BSOD's are so similar to the problems I was having with my earlier Dell XPS 8500.

I don't want to go through another 2.5 years of BSOD hell with my new rig.  I love to use my computer for photography and video editing, but I'm not using it for that purpose, because I don't trust my computer to function crash free.  This is so very frustrating.  If anyone has any ideas on how to proceed next, I would be so very grateful.

I'm including the error report below provided by BlueScreenView after my last BSOD:

:welcome: to the Bleeping Computer forum.

You shouldn't run two antivirus programs at the same time. Running two AV at the same time may create a race condition in the system which may cause BSOD, hang or freeze. Please uninstall either ESET or Norton completely from the system and let us know whether the BSOD continues with a single AV program.

Thanks for the quick response Anshad.   Sorry if I didn't make myself more clear in my initial post.  I only have 1 antivirus program installed on my computer, and it's ESET Smart Security 7.  When I initially built the rig, I installed Norton 360.  However, after the redundant BSODs, I uninstalled Norton using the Norton Uninstaller (to completely remove it) before installing the ESET antivirus program that I have now.  This hasn't made a difference, as I continue to receive BSOD's.

This is worth to try. You may try to use your PC without those AV's installed and find out if you still get BSODs.

I will defer to Anshad Edavana in this post....so, just to gather information......Does this still happen in Safe Mode ? or in Clean Boot

I'll do a clean boot now and let you know after a few hours (normally the time between BSOD's).

I clean booted Windows 7 Pro 64-bit yesterday, and have experienced 2 added BSOD's since then (in about only 4 hours of computer use).  This is driving me absolutely nuts.  I ran BlueScreenView and the latest 2 BSOD's are detailed below -- both seem to be related to my antivirus software ESET Smart Security 7 . . . any thoughts on what to do next to fix this would be very appreciated.

 It sounds to me like you could have a driver problem.  I see where you said you "updated all outdated drivers using Smart Driver Updater.  Normally it's a mistake to get drivers from anywhere except the manufacturer of your computer or in this case motherboard.  I'd try going back to the drivers that the mobo came with and see what happens.

Good luck.

Everyone with a computer should back his system up to an external hard drive regularly.  :thumbsup:

I think the waters have been well and truly muddied here...in other words the situation is no longer clear.

Start by uninstalling ESET.    Uninstaller ::      http://download.eset.com/special/eset_av_remover.exe

(The ESET AV Removal tool will remove almost any antivirus software previously installed on your system.)

If you are uncertain at all, whether any traces of other AV's may still be present  : http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN146&locale=en_US

Install MSE (microsoft security essentials)   HERE

If you dont already have it, install Malwarebytes free from HERE

If this creates no noticeable difference, please run the following for me :

Download HERE Screen317 Security Check[/url]   and save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
* Please post the contents of that document.
Note:: If any security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

Please download MiniToolBox   to desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following boxes:

* List content of Hosts
* Flush DNS
* Report IE Proxy Settings
* Reset IE Proxy Settings
* Report FF Proxy Settings
* Reset FF Proxy Settings
* List last 10 Event Viewer log
* List Installed Programs
* List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.
Click Go and Copy / Paste the result. (result.txt)

Condobloke and Wpgwpg -- really appreciate your advice and the time taken to craft it.   With respect to the drivers, on Saturday morning I performed a clean install of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, along with all the Windows updates.  Prior to installing the updates, I went to the ASUS support page, and only downloaded the available drivers on their page for the ASUS Z77-A motherboard in my rig.   I received 3 BSODs after that exercise, and before loading any anti-virus software onto my machine.  See below for the BSODs:

Next, I began the tedious task of loading ESET Smart Security 7 antivirus, MS Office, and all my photo-video software back on the machine,.  Through the next 7-8 hours, while loading all the software, the computer never crashed once (performed flawlessly).  However, just about the time I was thinking a celebration was in order, I began to have recurring BSODs once again  . . .  see below:

Condobloke -- I ran the 2 programs you provided as links -- Security Checker and MiniToolbox.  However, I did not uninstall ESET Smart Secruity 7 prior to doing so (even though you instructed otherwise).  Given that I experienced 3 BSODs prior the ESET install, I'm thinking the BSODs from ESET may be symptomatic versus root cause.  Would like to get your thoughts on that after having a glance through the Security Checker and MiniToolbox reports below.  Of course, if you still advise removing ESET and installing MS Essentials, I'll proceed down that path next and rerun the reports.

Hi KornFan1,

Could you please upload your dump files using services such as dropbox or one drive which are located in the following path :- "C:\Windows\Minidumps\". Zip up the files and upload them so that we could analyze them in order to help finding the root cause quicker.

Also, if you do not find any files inside that folder, please stop using softwares like CCleaner as they delete the Dump files which are required in this case I think. As a start could you please uninstall the following softwares?

1. Uninstall SuperAntiSpyware using this Removal tool found here :- **LINK**.

2. Uninstall every piece of Asus bloatware you could find in the Add/Remove Programs as many times these Asus Bloatware are the cause of the BSOD as they are buggy <_<

Blueelvis -- thanks for your assistance.  I created a DropBox folder, and zipped up all my dmp files.  Here's the link below to access (hope this works, it's my first time doing this):

This evening, I'm planning on uninstalling ESET Smart Security 7 (as Condobloke suggested), installing Microsoft Security Essentials, uninstalling Superantispyware, and uninstalling all ASUS bloatware.   Thanks again for your suggestions!

I suggest you leave SuperAntiSypware alone, it doesn't conflict with anything and is useful.

Hi Kornfan,

WinDBG is not able to read the Faulting module name in every Crash dump file and almost in every dump file, Bluescreenview blames the em008_64.dat as the root cause which is related to the ESET Antivirus, so I would suggest that please remove that using this tool **LINK**.

Furthermore, almost in every Crash dump file, the AS Suite II.exe is the module running. So, I would suggest you to remove all the ASUS Bloatware you can find as almost all of the Asus Bloatware drivers are old and are a possible cause.

I suggest you leave SuperAntiSypware alone, it doesn't conflict with anything and is useful.

Louis

Fair Enough.

Blueelvis - I uninstalled all ASUS bloatware I could find with Revo Uninstaller . . . which consisted of the following 3 programs:

ASUS AI Suite II

ASUS AI Charger

ASUS PC Diagnostic Tools

I also uninstalled ESET Smart Security 7.  During the 1 hour it took me to complete this exercise, I experienced 4 BSOD's (good gracious!).  Next, I installed AVAST antivirus free 30 day trial.  I was very nervous about installing Microsoft Security Essentials, because it ranks very poorly in the antivirus test results published on the web, and Microsoft  has suggested it only provides minimal protection and now recommends a 3rd party antivirus product be used.  I'll post back in the next 24 hours to let you know if this has made any difference in the performance and stability of my rig.   I sincerely appreciate the time you spent analyzing my dmp files and providing feedback on next steps.  Thanks for lending a helping hand.  My frustration level is nearing "code red" with anything Windows
