Hi, I am going to China later for a month, and I was wondering if there is any effective, easy ways to get past Chinese internet censorship on my laptop and tablet.

Most common way I've seen recommended is by using a VPN service.

I've heard of that, any tips, recommendations or cautions you can give?

Never been to China so unfortunately I don't have any suggestions. As for VPN service make sure you choose a well known and well reviewed provider that fits your budget and has solid support.

A friend of mine just spent 3 weeks in China, he was able to browse on his laptop + ipad without censorship using a VPN from Private Internet Access (http://www.privateinternetaccess.com).

It cost him around $7 for one month, and was fast enough for him to watch streaming video, skype call etc.
