I've had my Dell laptop for over 3 years now and it's been fantastic......up until now!
Studio 1749 17.3in High Definition+ (1600X900) LED with TrueLife Intel Core i5-540M 2.53GHz (3.06Ghz Turbo Mode, 3M cache) Wireless : European Intel Wireless LAN 6200 2x2 (802.11a/b/g/n) Card Optical Drive : 8X DVD+/-RW Drive Back Up Media Not Included MOD,SW,OFC-2010,FI misc Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Reader 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz (2 DIMMs) 500 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM) misc Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 BIT) Hard Drive: 500 GB 2.5in 3.0Gb/s and 16MB Data Burst Cache, SATA (7200RPM) Graphics : 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Camera Integrated 2.0 Mega Pixel Camera Internal UK/Irish Qwerty Backlit Keyboard Battery Primary 6-cell 56W/HR LI-ION
Basically it's running painfully slow, taking sometimes 10-15 mins to log in and a few mins to load up the icons on my desktop. Shutting down also takes a lot longer than normal. Programs also take an age to eventual load once i've double clicked on them.
Now i've run my antivirus software (AVG and AD-AWARE anti virus as well as AVAST) and nothing has been found.
I've also run MALWAREBYTES, SUPER ANTI SPYWARE, ADVANCED SYSTEM CARE and AMIGABIT POWER BOOSTER and although stuff does get removed, it's still very slow. Even when typing this the machine locks for a few seconds and my FIREFOX says 'NOT RESPONDING' and then it carries on running again. I've DEFRAGED and DISK CLEAN UP also with no improvement.
Now i'm basically out of ideas as to what to do next! I could take it to the shops but i would like to work out what's wrong myself incase it happens again.
Is there a program that can check the health of the HD or the RAM?
Do you guys have any ideas please?
Thank you for reading in advance.
