HI Gang

I am new to this forum but not new to computers mainly PC's.

I have read several articles about this aboutblank thing and I am not really understanding exactly what it is. Is it bad or not. ? I run the latest IE and have MSN as my opening page. I am really interested in what goes on with Nascar and there have been so many times I have tried to open something on one of their newsletters and the first thing that pops up is this aboutblank. And of course I get the IE cannot display this page thing next.

I have run several good virus programs, malewarebytes, hijackthis, atc and nothing seems to touch it. Has anyone found a for sure thing that will get rid of it. I am not afraid to get into the registry. I am really tired of messing with this thing. I also run Win 7.

  Thanx.....Gunny

It isn't an infection, but to try and fix it:

First, press the windows flag key and r at the same time.

Then, type in cmd and press enter.

in the big black box, type:

____________________

ping msn.com

This may fix the problem, but since I don't use IE, I really wouldn't know.

Tell me if this fixes your problem!  :bounce:

Also, I would recommend using a different browser, as IE is not the safest browser.

I use chrome, but firefox would be fine too.

If you want to get chrome, go to:

--------------------------------

www.google.com/chrome

--------------------------------

and download the installer. Run the installer and you should be good.  :thumbup2:

If you want to install firefox, go to:

--------------------------------------------

www.ninite.com

--------------------------------------------

PRO TIP: This website allows you to install programs without crapware, so it is a must for new computers :)

Check the box next to Firefox and press:

--------------------

Get the installer

--------------------

Download it to the desktop and run the ninite installer. :hello:

Good day!

Hi..

I have Chrome installed also, and I thought it was set up as the default. And it use to shift to Chrome when ever I opened up something like I described. That changed. If I changed my opening page from MSN to something else. ????  What if I changed the version of IE. ?

  Thanx....Gunny
