no sound

i have a computer that shows no sound driver nothing. i have downloaded the driver but still have nothing showing.i have looked in add and remove programs and the driver is there so im not sure what i need to do next to fix. i have had this prob on other computers and fond and installed the driver and it was fixed.since this is a friends computer and im not with that computer i am unable to list the type or any other details other than its a dell optiplex 755 thats as much as i remember about it other than its a vista op system.

Hi bammthis. Did you checked the device manager if the Audio is not disabled? Is it a newly installed Windows? Is it the onboard sound or a PCI sound card?
