Mod Edit:  Split from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/513260/best-screen-capture/page-0 - Hamluis.

Okay guys I downloaded A Thousand Words 1.0 screen capture from BC.com and can't figure out how to use, any help would be appreciated.  My built in screen capture will not work for some reason.  I tried alt+prt sc but nothing.  I tried Paint but nothing?  I think there is a reason that these do not work but would not be able to fix on my own.  Wonder if I can uninstall these and re-install to get potential lost/removed files restored.

I don't know what screen capture...has to do with lost/removed files...but let's take a look :).

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Wow that was difficult lol.  Thanks for all the instructions!  Isn't there personal security info. included in this? IP address and such?

Also is this snapshot saved in my pc somewhere that I can access it when I want to view it?

IP address info isn't what I consider "personal security"...I don't see how it can be useful when relatess to the average user and DHCP mitigates the usefulness of such, IMO.

The Speccy snapshot can be accessed anytime...bear in mind that it reflects what was current at a particular moment in time.  The posted link to the snapshot is the only one that anyone else can see...they cannot see future snapshots unless you post the links for such.  The snapshot and the program do not report the same data...the program reflects more detail, including license data...which is why members are not asked to cut/paste data from the program but to link to the snapshot.

You can create a more current snapshot anytime...or view the more detailed Speccy data...by exercising the options available in the installed program (assuming that you keep it installed).  I find it handy to keep it installed since it summarizes a great deal of data about my system whenever I want it.

None of the IP's in the Speccy log are yours.

What you can do to double check is go to https://www.whatismyip.com/ to get your IP address and compare it to those listed in the report.

- Memory usage is high (72%) after 1 hour of uptime. Especially Chrome uses LOTS of memory and with only 1 GB of memory every MB counts. Replace the 2 512MB modules with e.g. 2 1 GB modules. Second best option is to install PcWinTech's Cleanmem and let the program clean the filecache as well. Then memory usage should come down and speed up your system.

- Is the AVAST Firewall running alongside the MS Firewall ? Disable one of them. Speeds up your system.

Let's focus on the perceived problem.

What's wrong, in your opinion, with this system...that makes you think that you have problem requiring resolution?  Looking at what you've posted..;.I don't see a problem defined.

What's wrong with the system that you believe needs addressing?

I don't know, I have the avast free version and I did not believe it had a firewall?

Well that's good to hear.  As I stated in the opening post " My built in screen capture will not work for some reason.  I tried alt+prt sc but nothing.  I tried Paint but nothing?  I think there is a reason that these do not work but would not be able to fix on my own.  Wonder if I can uninstall these and re-install to get potential lost/removed files restored."

No Prt sc has never worked as far as I know.  I thought it was Alt+Prt sc but I have tried both.

Paste is not available via Ediit or by Right clicking in Paint at this point.

Are you expecting something to happen when you press whatever you use to take a screenshot, maybe a confirmation notice or something? If so, you won't-nothing happens that you can see when press the keys for the screenshot.

Where is Edit you mentioned? I don't see Edit anywhere in Paint.

Right clicking in Paint does not bring up any context menu.

Do you see Paste in Paint-on the upper left side? If you see it, did you click it?

No did not really expect a conformation.

Edit is right across the top like in Word.

Paste is under Edit but it is not highlighted so be used, so it doesn't.

I looked through the Help section for Paint but cannot see anything that helps? maybe my version of xp/home does not have this function.

I will just go ahead and download a program.

I was thinking though, a while ago my XP Professional crashed-so my computer buddy installed XP Home for me.  Is it possible that this has affected the way Paint is working?
