Hello,

I'm been trying to delete a folder that installed itself on my computer called .junique (I'm running Win7). I never installed it & I don't know where it came from. It's a folder that I think showed up several months ago. I was recently updating to a newer version of a software application, & when I delete the old & tried to start the new, it says it's already running (this has been going on for several months, prior to that I could update fine. Now I just have to stick with the older version because the newer versions will not open due to it saying the older version is already running). The developers told me to delete the .junique folder, but everytime I delete it, & reboot, it just comes right back! :scratchhead:  I read here that it is mainly intended to prevent a user from running simultaneous instances of the same Java application. Does anybody have an idea how to permanently remove it?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Cynthia

What software application were you running?

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Thank you for getting back to me so soon!

I have a software application called "Lead Kahuna" that installs on my desktop. I've had it for over a year & the developer constantly does fixes & adds new functions & sends out a new version after every update. They just updated to version 2.05 & I'm still running version 2.0 because the versions after have all given the "Already Running" message.

I've pasted the results into this post, as well as included the link to the Snapshot using Speccy.

From what I see...your SideBySide errors possibly indicate Windows file corruption.  I would try running the sfc /scannow command from the command prompt.

The only useful info I found re Junique...indicates that it's a program voluntarily installed that relates to using java.  It's not on your list of installed programs...it's not listed on your Speccy data.  If it's related to software installed...you need to take it up with the developers.  I also find no reference at all to the software you listed.

Whatever this software you need...it seems that it has some bugs, IMO.  You are using the Remove Programs button when you attempt to remove it, correct?

SFC /SCANNOW,  Run in Command Prompt at Boot - Windows 7 Forums - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html

The "Lead Kahuna" application is 69.7 MB, yet it doesn't install in my programs. It installs on my desktop only (C:\Users\Gateway User\Desktop), so I can't use the Remove button to remove it. (Up until a few months ago) I've just been able to put it in the trash & replace it with the newest version, or unzip the latest version & overwrite the old. Neither of those methods work anymore. I've been in contact with Customer Support for the software & they haven't had any issues with others upgrading. They were the ones who told me to delete the Junique folder, but it won't stay deleted. :(

Thanks Roodo,

I tried Revo Uninstaller & it seems it only removes applications that are installed in my program files. This software (it is an .exe) does not install there, so Revo didn't even see it & couldn't find it. And the Junique folder is just a folder, & wasn't found by Revo either.

I've shot a short Jing videos to show you what I see.

http://screencast.com/t/Au3nkdGRu

I have deleted the folder several times, emptied the trash, rebooted the computer, & it STILL replaces itself!

The older version of the software does work. It just doesn't have he latest features.

Try

stick your Windows CD in your  tray, boot on it, and at the “Welcome to Setup” screen, press “R“. Once the recovery console has started, navigate to the location of your locked file, and delete it. Since WRC does not really start the system, the files will not be in use, and you will be able to delete them

Thanks Roodo,

I think it might be a software issue. They had me delete the junique file, then the software & re-install it. I did, even deleted it from the trash. But when I re-installed the latest version of the software, the junique file reappeared as well.

HELP!!! :exclame: I'm STILL dealing with this problem! It seems that the .junique folder with it's LOCK files is attached to the application (or at least Java in some way since I never installed it), because every time I try to open the new LK software application (after deleting the folder), the Junique folder re-installs with the current time stamp, & a dialog box sayings: "Program Name is already running."

I used RevoUninstaller to uninstall Java & all its remnants, & re-installed it since the LK software needs it to run. I have full permissions for the Junique folder, but when I tried to delete the folder using the CMD prompt, I got "access denied." I tried BOTH FileAssassin, & Unlocker (neither of which worked to unlock the files because they said they could not find locked handles). After I tried those 2 unlockers, I went back to the CMD prompt to see AGAIN if I could delete the .junique folder/files & this time it said: "The system cannot find the file specified." Even though I was looking right at the folder & files inside! I then tried LockHunter to see what process was causing the files to be locked. It said: "No processes locking this file or folder have been found."

The developers say it is my problem because it is only happening on my computer :( ...even though the folder is opening when I open their software.

Anyone have any other suggestions I can try?

I'd go back to the developers...with a strong dose of reality.  If the folder is aligned with installation of their software...it's their bug to deal with, IMO.

Thank you Louis,

I believe you are right. The developers say they cannot replicate the issue on their end, yet according to the developers these are the files created on my computer when opening the software (the screenshot THEY took of their own machine) - http://screencast.com/t/1TXgFDWe. But they still blame my computer since they say I am the only one experiencing this problem - which I strongly doubt. (They don't like people asking support questions outside of the Help Desk & will not answer them openly.  :nono: I know I've seen some bug issues that have been brought up.)

I asked for their instructions on doing a complete removal of the .exe software so I can start over with the latest version since they did charged me for the yearly renewal a few months ago. They say "LK never actually installs on your machine, which is why you don't see it in the Add/Remove Programs section. It puts an icon on your desktop so you can access it through the Java, but that's it. Just remove all of the downloads and .exe files from your computer by dragging them to the trash." (Which is what I've ALWAYS done.)

They say since nobody but me having the issues, the ONLY way to resolve this is to work with a computer technician. They say it's NOT the software, it's something with my machine.

I have never had a Windows file or folder I could not delete in linux unless there was a file system error. Download Puppy 5.2.8, Burn the iso file by double clicking it in Windows 7. Boot the disk and when the Puppy Desktop appears your hard drive will be shown as an icon in the lower left of the desktop, probably sda1. Click on it once and a green dot will appear. The File Manager will open showing your Windows files and folders. Browse to the location of the folder you want to delete. Right click, select delete. Reboot.

Edit: Sorry, I read your first post again and the folder comes back after a delete. The Puppy solution will not work. Maybe there is a program on startup that creates this folder. In the search box type .Junique. You may find another instance of it other than the desktop.

John,

I searched for the .Junique folder & files & it is only in Users/Gateway User/ The only time the folder replaces itself is when I delete it & re-open the software application. Otherwise, the folder sits there with the last time & date stamp. Yet version 2.0 works with limiting features & obviously uses that same folder. So the folder is most likely tied to that version & will not let go.

After deleting your application and Java, the junique folder when deleted will appear again after reboot even though Java and the application have been removed?
