I have a ibm thinkpad, which is running windows 2000 sp4

How do you stop programs from loading upon starup like win xp? I only want to stop a few, like quicktime which won't let me disable it in properties.

For programs like Quicktime, I use Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel

You're welcome, Jeff.
Glad it worked for you.

I also use his, StartupMonitor.
It works nicely with Startup Control Panel.
