Hi i just bought an hp15 on May 20th, I turned it on and set it all up! It came with McAfee spyware, i listened to my father he told me to delete it, so i did, i tried uploading AVG, and it won't show up on the computer is says something about proof of ownership or something, im not good with computers at all, i mainly use my computer for facebook, downloading music, and movies! i really don't do much else! i also just ran superantispyware, and malwarebytes... So if you could please help me figure this out it'd be greatly appreciated!

I use the free version of AVG.  You can download it from here:

http://free.avg.com/us-en/free-antivirus-download

You don't run a minute longer than you absolutely have to without an antivirus program, so get this one or another one ASAP.

Good luck.

Everyone with a computer should back his system up to an external hard drive regularly.

Windows 8 and 8.1 have Windows Defender which is activated upon booting the computer its first time.  But it automatically is disabled when another antivirus is installed, like the free trial of McAfee.  By removing McAfee Windows defender is activated when it next boots, so you are protected either way you go.

Through personal experiences and the general consensus of other Avast is a better antivirus than AVG.  I had been running Avast free when a friend gave me a copy of AVG 2013.  I started having some suspicious  activity and ran a scan with the AVG, it didn't find anything.  Just for the heck of it I uninstall AVG, downloaded and installed Avast free, ran a scan and found what AVG had not found.

Let's run two scans to see if we can narrow down what's happening.

Once the search is complete a list of the pending items will be displayed.  If you see any which you do not want removed, remove the check mark next to it.
