Hi, Thanks so much for your help. I ran all the programs (adaware, spybot, bitdefender, housecall, stinger, windows update...and I do use zone alarm. Normally i have zonealarm, microsoft antispyware, spyware doctor, and AVG. I also frequently update and run spybot and adaware.
The logs have been showing up clean EXCEPT Bitdefender found some problems it couldn't clean, and then Housecall (after bitdefender) seemed to find and clean quite a bit.

At this point I need to see if there's still something infecting the computer, or if there's another reason for it being slow.

I will donate to your site and to others involved.

Thanks. M. Lowry

Hello mlowry816,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer

There is no malware in your log. :flowers: You do have a lot of things running in the background that are not necessary and can be started manually. If you would like, I'll put together a list of these things for you, and you can decide whether you want them to run automatically or not.

Thanks,
tea

Wonderful news!

Thanks Tea! I was hoping I had gotten rid of the malware...and I would love a list of the programs to take out of my startup files so I can get this computer running quicker.

I did make a Paypal donation for your help, thanks so much.

Hello,

Here is the promised list  :

All of the following can be fixed with HijackThis. This does not remove them, just stops them from running at startup or in the background. You can start them manually, if you even use them at all! They are all in the "N" category, which means - Not required - typically infrequently used tasks that can be started manually if necessary. It is your choice here to choose some or all. If you don't like a choice you've made, simply restore them from your HijackThis backups. :flowers:

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PadTouch] C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Touch and Launch\PadExe.exe
Toshiba Touch and Launch, offers easy movement and freedom of programs navigation with TouchPad.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SmoothView] C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSHIBA Zooming Utility\SmoothView.exe
TOSHIBA Zooming Utility - allows "automatic" zoom feature in some appications, like IE, MS-Office, WMPlayer, Adobe-Reader and also desktop icons

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TPNF] C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TouchPad\TPTray.exe
Touchpad configuration tray icon for Toshiba laptops. Available via Start -> Settings -> Control Panel

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Pinger] C:\TOSHIBA\IVP\ISM\pinger.exe /run
Pinger is the resident program for Toshiba updates. Periodically checks to see if there are any software/driver upgrades for your particular computer model. If it finds any, it posts a notification.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe
Quick access to the control panel via a System Tray icon for graphics based upon the Intel chipsets (ie, i810). These chipsets are often included on motherboards. Available via Start -> Settings -> Control Panel

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TOSCDSPD] C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSCDSPD\toscdspd.exe
Related to Toshiba_laptop CD/DVD drivers. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WeatherWatcher] C:\Program Files\Weather Watcher\ww.exe
WeatherWatcher - weather reporting in the System Tray

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Eraser] C:\Program Files\Eraser\eraser.exe -hide
Eraser allows for complete removal of data from your hard drive

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ccleaner] "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\ccleaner.exe" /AUTO
Related to CCleaner Tool to removes unused files from your system. TIFs, MRUs, cookies. etc...

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
This is an absolute resource hog

When you're finished with your choices, click "Fix Checked"

Reboot your computer.

Please let me know if you have any further questions, and let me know if this helps with the speed!

Thanks,
tea
