Hello,

I recently attempted to clean my system of some malware and thought I was successful.  When I was doing a Nvidia driver update the installer kept failing.  I addressed that as a unrelated issue and tried every possible permutation of solution, driver sweeper, safe mode installs, etc., etc.  When I took a look at my Windows Events I notice failed events related to the Nvidia installations.

Details :  " Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.6195"

                 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Internet Services\ShellStreams64.dll "

Now, Bitdefender doesn't finish running.  I can't see my graphics card.  I cannot install drivers or some software with Windows Installer.  Occasionally my mouse emulates the left button constantly being pressed, i.e., you don't have to click it, just hover the cursor over any executable object and it executes.  This can be reset temporarily with a reboot.

I've spent 3 days trying to read boards and fix it myself.  Short of professional help, I'm so frustrated, I'm about ready to do an OS clean install.

You guys are my last change.

Below are the requested log posts.  Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

step1.gif In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/536151 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

step2.gifIf you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from the following link if you no longer have it available and save it to your destop.

    DDS.com Download Link
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control can be found HERE.

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

Is there any reason there's been no response to my post?  It's been open and prepared for 10 days.

Hello defazken,
My apologies for the delay, it looks like your topic has been overlooked.

First of all, can you restart your computer in Safe Mode and see if the same problems exist there?

regards, Elise

Thank you for responding.  Yes, it still happened, however...

I realized that non of my sound devices were recognized in Device Manager..(all had yellow exclamation mark), GTX 660 card, on-board card, etc. So I had remembered that I uninstalled two sound recording applications from NCH software, WavePad Sound Editor and Sound Tap Streaming Audio Recorder.  When I re-installed both all my devices were recognized by my system and only then was I able to install the Nvidia drivers.

I still think I have a virus or malware issue on my box though.

Why do you think you have malware? I don't see any evidence of it, what issues do you still have left?

Malwarebytes only once once after I re-install it.  Panda process starts but never executes.  From time to time my mouse's left button seems to "loop click".  In other words all I have to do is hold the cursor over an executable object and it executes, without touching the left button.

And finally, something is eating up all my space on my C: drive.  I remove applications like MS Office and I can see the space reallocated.  I leave the window and come back and that free space is gone.  It is really gone as I attempted to re-install MS Office I just un-installed and have no room.

That usually means the mouse is broken. :) You can try a different one to see if the problem is fixed with that.

If you have issues with space, then programs not starting is not uncommon either (you can also experience freezing for example). Have you checked the system restore settings to see how much disk space is in use by that?

Also, how much free space do you have right now? We can try something like Windirstat to see what exactly takes up so much space, but you need a (very) small amount of free space to install that application.

Yes, I've replicated all issues by removing the possible contributors, including mice, restored from system backup points.  I don't think I've made my point clear. I have one system restore point currently, the space allocated to is is nominal.

Space issue is such;, I have 5 GB of disk space free.  I free up 50 GB of space by un-installing applications.  I see the 55GB of free space....I close the window and look at the C: drive again and I have 5GB of free space.  I repeat again by freeing up another 60GB of space by un-installing, same thing, open the window again and have ONLY 5 GB of space left.  Even though I freed up a total of 110GB of space when I attempt to install a 450 application I'm told there is not enough space on the C: drive.

To see whats taking up so much space, please run Windirstat.

You can download it here: https://windirstat.info/download.html

Install the program and run it. Select the drive you want to verify and let it run until it has finished enumerating all files/folders.
Next, look a the folder(s) in the treeview that are largest and expand it/them to see what file/folder is taking up so much space (for example, if your pictures folder is taking up 500 GB of space, expand to that).

Once you have done this for all large folders, highlight the first folder in the branch (usually your C partition) and click Report > Send mail to owner. This will open an email message with the statistics in it. Copy these statistics and paste them in your next reply.
