harddisk crashed

Hallo,

 

my laptop, Compaq presario, crashed 2 days ago.

 

I took of the harddisk and i put another one.

 

I installed the windows home premium again , everything is working perfectly, only the sound.

 

The icon is there down in the toolbare and when i play music or something with sound, i see that there is  little bit of movement , but i hear nothing.

 

No sound comes out, i tried almost everything and still nothing.

 

who can help me please?? you are my last resource.

When you say 'everything' what did you try?

Did you try updating the drivers?

Did you make sure the volume is full from the speaker icon in the taskbar?

Did you make sure no sounds are muted when you click on mixer?

Are you using external speakers/headphones?

Sorry for the delay. Do you get no sound irrespective of what you are playing the sound from? What about windows sounds? (startup sound, error etc). What about offline versus online sounds? (play from VLC/windows media player versus youtube/soundcloud/vimeo from a browser)

Did you try the Windows troubleshooter?

What sound card does the device manager show that is installed? Does it show an exclamation mark beside it?

 

Have you installed all windows updates?

 

Try this once:

In the device manager (Right click my computer, properties, Hardware, Device Manager) at the bottom, there might be a ? like icon. Right click it and select Update drivers... Check 'let windows update search online blah blah blah', and follow the steps.

 

Try this as well:

click start>type "services">choose services> then search for "audio service" or similar on this window..> right-click..> choose restart> then audio service will do a restart

 

The website that you linked to does not seem like its an authorized website from windows or compaq, please make sure you scan every file you download with a trusty antivirus before installing.

I dont have no sound at all, not even a beep sound for errors, the sound is totally vanished.

do the headphones work in another laptop/pc...?

 

What were the circumstances leading up to the CRASH ?.....what was you laptop doing....did you have pop ups...was your browser being redirected......doing other strange things ???.....

 

Go to:

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > View Local Services
[just click on any service, then press the letter "W" on your keyboard, it will take you to the services starting with the "w" letter]
 
Right click on the "Windows Audio" service and choose "Properties"
 
You will see 4 tabs, click on the last one, labeled "Dependencies"
 
In that tab, you will see the "This service depends on the following system components" box, it displays 3 services
 
Beside each service there is a "+" icon, click on it to expand the list. The 2nd service will have 2 child services, the 3rd service will have 1 child service.
 
Now make sure that all the 6 services (3 main, 3 child) have the "Started" status in the "Services" window you opened earlier
 
Most probably you will find one of those services are not running, just start all of them, then try to start the "Window Audio" service from the "General" tab.

Also try right clicking on the volume icon and click PlayBack devices.

Right click in the Playback display panel and click on Display Disconnected and Display Disabled devices.

Let me know what you see.

 

Also issue this command in Run and display the text results here.

pnputil -e >> C:\pnputilResults.txt && notepad C:\pnputilResults.txt

We are lookign for 6.10.6289.0

stil did not succeed. the icon is there and windows says there is no problem. I did everything you said. also opened the laptop to see if there is something disconnected. i took the battery out of the memory and put it again. i reinstalled windows this time not 7 but 8. still no sound. its a rare problem.

Before the crash of the harddisk was everything working perfectly until the harddisk didn't want to respond at all and the laptop could not find it anymore.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
 
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
 
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
