Windows explorer manager constantly freezes and laptop crashes

I have a Windows 7, 64 bit laptop. I have recently wiped everything clean and did a system recovery twice, but the problem is still there. Im not sure what is going on. Someone please help me! :(

Can you please provide more information?  What version of W7? What processor?  How much RAM?  After system recovery, did you add any programs?  Could you describe in detail what the problem is (when it usually happens, what the symptoms are, etc.)?

Can you please provide more information?  What version of W7? What processor?  How much RAM?  After system recovery, did you add any programs?  Could you describe in detail what the problem is (when it usually happens, what the symptoms are, etc.)?

 

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 8gb ram. Windows explorer constantly freezes and my laptop crashes. It doesn't matter what I am doing, it freezes and crashes all the time.

Juniorwells, there are a few possible reasons for the problems you're having, but the two main ones would be hardware issues or malware.  Unless you have identified any symptoms that would indicate hardware failure, please wait for a BC team member to help you with this.

 

For example: the computer feels very hot (in general or only specific places) to the touch prior to freezes/crashes, you hear strange noises coming from inside, etc. would indicate a hardware issue.

 

BTW, what is the make and model of the laptop?  What CPU do you have?  If you are unsure, you can click on the Windows button, then right click on "Computer" and select "Properties".  It'll show you the make, model, CPU, etc.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
 
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
 
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
 
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Thanks for the reply. I have an Hp dv6 notbook pc. I have an i5-2430M processor. And I have a toshiba hard drive. My computer overheats at times. I changed the maximum processor state to 70 and 75. This has helped in the past. I also notice that I had an issue with the sound.

I think you will have an issue with the ContextMen, a way to fix this is to open CCleaner and navigate to Tools thens elect Startup and then click on ContextMenu.

High light all the context menues and select disable.

Then check explorer to see ifit crashes, ifit doesnt then start re-enabling them one by one.

A lot of the times things such as Bluetooth or PowerISO right click options in explorer create these types of issues.

Appears to me that you have hard drive problems.

 

S.M.A.R.T Status: Warning
 
I suggest that you first...move all valued data files to another drive/other media....then run the following hard drive diagnostic's long generic test.

My explorer crashes every 2 minutes now. I am unable to run the tools. Is there some way that I can stop my explorer from crashing so much? I cannot access windows at all without the explorer crashing. However, I am able to run HP Quickweb with no problem.

- I see a number of important Services (e.g. "BITS") are not running. It's important to get those Services "up & running" before doing anything else. Download "Windows Repair"

(ask a friend ??) and transfer it to your system (with an USB stick). Disconnect internet, Start your system in Safe Mode and run the program. Go directly to "Start Repairs" and hit "Start". follow the instructions. If making a backup takes too long (think crashes) then skip that step. Click on "Start". Make sure you tick repairs #3 & #27 only and hit "Start". The program should take under a minute. Restart your system. Problem solved ? We'll take it from there.

- I don't see an Antivirus program running ? Are you infected ? Install (for the time being) the free MS Security Essentials. Then you have at least a better protection (for the time being).

I couldn't download anything without windows explorer crashing. I could not even access any folders. I just did yet another system recovery factory reset. I will run the hard drive diagnostic and post the results asap.
