How to Custom the Start Screen for all users in Windows 8

I thought about posting this, it might be helpful to someone who's doing win8 deployment.

Windows 8 Start Screen Tiles database files that contain the tiles locations and layout are stored in the following files:


%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\appsFolder.itemda ta-ms


So if you like to have the same start screen customization for all the users, copy the appsFolder.itemdata-ms and place it into the following location:







if the first option didn't work.

Make the file Read Only, this way all the users will have the same start screen customization.


Also you can do it using the regedit :


Right click on the right and choose New REG_Expand_SZ
For the name, call it whatever you like
For the string portion use this command (all on one line, no quotes on the ends):
"c:\windows\system32\attrib.exe c:\users\default\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\appsfolder.itemdata-ms -R"
