I purchased a new Samsung laptop with windows 8 and was not aware at the time that it synched some of my settings from

my older computer using Windows vista. I have had problems all along on my new computer and not quite knowing what

the issue is. I just noticed in my environment variables the settings show

variable name

variable value

system variables

ComSpec                             %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe

OS                                                 Windows_NT

PATH                                   %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\system32\wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0

PATHEXT                               .COM;.EXE;.BAT;.CMD;.VBS;.VBE;.JS;.JSE;.WSF;.WSH;.MSC

PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER                      AMD64 Family 21 Model 16 Stepping 1, AuthenticAMD

PROCESSOR_LEVEL                    21

PROCESSOR_REVISION              1001

PSModulePath                                %SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\

SAFEBOOT_OPTION                    NETWORK

TEMP                                            %SystemRoot%\TEMP

TMP                                               %SystemRoot%\TEMP

USERNAME                                  SYSTEM

windir                        shows            C:\windows                              but clicking edit shows:                                        %SystemRoot%

It is also possible that I have a virus. This has been really frustrating and I would really appreciate the help.

Hi Karen,

W8 when it starts-up goes into auto-detect mode for any other devices >>currently live<<. on your network,

be it printers/computers/ipads/bluetooth/phones and links them to your homegroup, also auto set-up, so you have instant access..

you have a couple of options, remove the devices or change your network sharing options.

i see from your earlier posts you have recovery discs.

The long winded way to go is

Do a fresh reinstall with the dics,  but TURN OFF any other wifi networked devices and set your network to private.

If the discs are for W8 upgrade to 8.1,

THEN if you want to add printers/phones etc turn them on they will be detected but you then have the choice to add them to your laptop

Thank you for replying. I', not quite sure I understand because I signed out of my homegroup. I also see or at least it shows my network

as being private? And, could you please tell me how to change my network sharing options. I have also done a factory reset a few times

and each time there are still the user settings. One thing I have noticed is that there is a default user. I am not that computer literate, but

with instructions I can get things done. I also just did a scf scan which should have a cbs.log and I can't find it anywhere. The only thing

I found was

It was on the internet        C:\Users\Karen\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\T66A62ZR          and I had it open into notepad. I did notice https://login.live.com in the document. Also I have noticed that there are two versions of Microsoft Visual C++2010 a 64 and 32 bit version. Should it be there? I never

installed it.

I am so thankful for the help.

I just realized that  Norton Internet Security\Engine\ is installed on my computer. I can't find it even though it shows

it is located in   C:\Program Files (x86). I am not quite sure how to remove it. I just recently ran the Norton removal tool due

to the fact I found several Norton products on my computer. This computer came with a 30 day trial of Norton. It almost seems

like Norton or something has control over my computer. I know I don't. I would sincerely appreciate any help.

It also looks like I am being redirected. I am noticing s.yimg.com quite a lot. I just went to make sure I was on yahoo, so I clicked

on view source and this is part of the page:

<!doctype html>

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:og="http://opengraphprotocol.org/schema/"
xmlns:fb="http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
<meta name="description" content="">
<!-- NEW CSS & JS -->
<!-- CSS -->
This is where I am seeing the s.yimg.com. I am not seeing yahoo.com anywhere. I would really appreciate any help.
