As of this am I am unable to get online with my host computer.  Was trying to install a new router when suddenly lost IP address and cannot recover it.  ISP says they see internet service through modem but cannot see computer altho I have hard wired to host computer.  Have tried all the recover steps through Microsoft tutorials... no go.  Help!!!

Not sure if this will work but connect the computer directly to the modem. In a command prompt window in a admin account reset Winsock by typing

netsh winsock reset catalog  <enter>

Then reset your TCP/IP stack by typing the following

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt  <enter>

Reboot and see if you can connect

Edit: you have programs that are security risks. Flash and Java are out of date including Adobe reader.

See if reinstalling the TCP/IP protocol works.

I had already tried your protacol... but I tried it again according to your script It failed again.. Says "not all Base entries can be found in winsock catalog. Reset is necessary"

I have tried this repeatedly. No go

This is my host computer that I am trying to correct/connect so I can set up my new router. I haven't tried setting up laptop or other device.. I am using my personal hotspot to contact you. Internet was working on the infected computer earlier today...altho it had been sporadic, which is why I thought perhaps I needed new router

I assume I must have been infected on the host computer. At a loss as to how to restore the Winstock catalog on that computer. I know its old and Windows Xp vulnerable.. but looking for direction so I can get all our other devices back online.
