I have a shared folder that goes between two XP PCs, the desktop is the host butwhen I boot it up, it takes a few minutes for it to share the folder again, until it does, its just a regular folder.

I can get on the internet fine as soon as I login to windows but I still assume its something to do with the network which is whats causing this.

Is there some way to speed this up or have it so it's 'always shared' even if the network is down?,

Regards, R

It can't be shared until the network is up and stable.

I disabled the services except for:

Atheros configuration utility

background intelligent transfer

computer browser

DHCP client

DNS client

indexing service

network connections

plug and play

remote procedure call

security accounts manager

wireless zero configuration

Net log-on is set to automatic but hasn't started.

it shared the folder after reboot right away but then on second reboot and so on it went back to taking ages again.
