Windows XP home SP3, the hard drive activity indicator light stays on constantly, the computer runs and I can access all programs but I had trouble booting it yesterday so I'm afraid to shut it down, would appreciate some ideas on what would have caused this.

Thank you.

Hard disk activity occurs for various reasons.

I would run the chkdsk /r command...then follow that with a defrag of the Windows partition.

chkdsk came back clean, all defragged, HD indicator still solid red, doesn't blink, never goes off.

I see no sign of a problem either with hardware or Windows.  The hard drive data looks OK.

You might run the chkdsk /r command again if you like, but that would be more file maintenance than correcting anything discernible, IMO.

Then why all those errors in the mini toolbox result.

And what about the system tray items by the time & date not loading or is that a different ballgame. ???

If you look at those errors...I'd like for you to tell us...just what they might mean.

The only message that I receive is that you have a system problem...but I can't say what kind of system problem or just how to go about mitigating it.

To generalize...I can think that your system is in a situation that falls into one of 3 general categories:  extensive file corruption...some hardware problem that cannot be pinpointed from looking at your errors...or a possible malware situation.

Beyond that...which is not really helpful to you or anyone else...I cannot generalize a "solution/fix".

Just maybe...someone else in this forum can see something that I cannot...if you sit back and await inputs from such members, you might come across more than my generalizations.

Well I got the HD indicator back to working properly, I uninstalled the WinPatrol program as it was not showing cookies (it would hang up) using Revo uninstaller and had to restart after so it could finish but shut the computer down, I also had the power plug out for the DVD so I pluged that back in then restarted the computer and the HD light is functioning properly.
