Can you repair windows 8.1 when preinstalled windows 8

i upgraded my laptop with windows 8 to windows 8.1

now my windows is corrupt so i need to do a repair install on the windows 8.1

am i able to do this without going back to windows 8 ? can i keep the windows 8.1 because my product key only works with 8

I would recommend that you ask your question on the Microsoft site. You might get a better response than you have seen here.

Hi Corvile,

It depends on whether it was originally an OEM W8,(dell/asus/toshiba), if it is, it will default back to W8.

Swing by windowseight forum loads of info there.
