Have you opened multiple tabs in Firefox and/or tabs with Flash/Java? (youtube, soundcloud etc)

Mozilla Support addresses this problem and has a host of suggestions.

I like many have been running FF for a ton of years, Every tab opened ups the CPU usage an raised the temps.  Just a week or so ago I was Youtubing  opening a bunch of tabs on my LT, I could feel the temp in my right hand.  I opened WIS and sure enough the temp a 30C higher then normal, CPU was running at about 70%.  I killed a bunch of tabs and watched the temp and CPU readings drop like a stone, a lot of tabs is very stressful I now limit mine to 8 that seems to keep the temp in check.

The latest firefox gets more and more lagging. So I changed to a very old firefox version, it's 15.0.1! Got it downloaded at www.oldapps.com :bananas:

I recommend against using older versions of Firefox especially such an old version. New versions are always patched with any vulnerable security flaws. You are putting your computer at risk.
