I've seen  a few forums and tried all fixes, I had sound previously  but today turned on my laptop and no sound.

sound device installed and working properly (so it notes) also tried update drivers and noted I have most updated.

I tried to restore back to earlier time, nothing..

I'm on a dell, not sure what other info one might need to help me out so just ask and I will reply.  I can hear something in my speakers from time to time, like a sound of static so I know the speakers work...but where did my sound disappear to?

Hello pat! What do you see in device manager??

Look in device manager and see if you have any yellow marks.

Here's a whole bunch of suggestions for a HP tutorial ???http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01884922&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en

PS You may not have all the features, but you should have most of them.

You've attached the speakers to some other device not your computer...and they work properly?

You've run the Windows Sound Troubleshooter available via the Help menus?
