 :smash: Hi guys,  Now I can't get anything but Firefox to open for me.   I can't even run my security software nor can I DL/install any software or reinstall any of it!  I need help! None of my Start Bar programs are showing the command tab 'open as administrator' and none of the start bar programs will open except for Firefox browser. I did system restore but I can't do command prompt. I ran MSE, malwarebytes and even Glary Utes 5. I purged everything they found. Now they won't open either. I am at my wit's end and feeling very depressed because now even Wordpad and Notepad won't open for me. I should upgrade but I can't afford to yet. I asked Justin an online computer geek friend for help but he hasn't responded yet. None of the forums can help and I am sick and tired of restarting and restarting. I cannot open Windows Update and I just can't do a clean reinstall, not with 40 years of programs and saved stuff in Henrietta!

The program tabs at the bottom on taskbar are blank and they used to have logos. I can't open any security software or reinstall any software. I can't open any defrags or other administrative programs. The only way I got to BC forums was by using my history lists. I can't use Command Prompt because I cannot 'open as admin' so I can't run chkdsk or sfc/scannow

I know the answer is simple but I'm dashed if I can find it! Can anyone out there assist? quietman7? donetao? Anybody? Without Wordpad or even Notepad, I cannot do what I love- write and post! You must understand that the web and cyberspace are my worlds. I have no family that cares and I have no friends besides you, my online friends to whom I feel closer than I do to my own blood kin! Without the web, I have nothing! :flame:

No Sirawit, I live in the States so I am using the American version of Windows 7 that cane preloaded with my HP Pavilion Home Premium Desktop PC. What a strange question. Would the German version work any better? Woul it use the English language? Thanks- keiman0  :warrior:

I ask you about German version because it start to having problems with opening programs since MS patch day this month (13th May).

Most likely with update KB2871997. But there looks like other versions of windows didn't having any problems, so this may not be the problem.

Please do this if you can :

Please download MiniToolBox and run it.

Checkmark following boxes:

  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (do NOT change any settings here)
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click Go and post the result.

Thank you.

 :warrior: Hi Sirawit and thanks for trying but although I can Download Mini ToolBox fine from BC it will NOT install. As I said before, I cannot get any software programs to install. I think I might have accidentally deleted something(s) crucial that Malwarebytes told me to delete or quarantine. Now I can't get Malwarebytes, Glary Utilities 5 or even Microsoft Security Essentials to open for me. A good try and I'll certainly try it again after I get this thing working again- keiman0  :flame:

Minitoolbox didn't requires installation, it can be run by double click normally.

Thank you.

 :warrior: Sorry Sirawit but the double click doesn't work either. I just am at my wit's end. I did get Malwarebytes to come up and it found 85 'errors', however, I've no clue as to which ones to delete, quarantine, ignore once or exclude (keep)! Is there any place that can tell me how to know the differences? Thanks again- keiman0  :spider

Please post the MBAM log here: (The last one for now that find 85 errors. And how many scan logs you have?)

-- XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-yyyy-mm-dd
-- Vista, Windows 7, 2008: C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-yyyy-mm-dd

Thank you.

It took me to apage that said Opera advised against using because of known malware infection on it. None of this makes the least bit of sense and I seem tobe unable to make Malwarebytes restore any of my quarantined PUP.Optionals! Many of them are registry entries and may be necessary. Thanks again- keiman0

 Why? Isn't this a forum about Windows 7 problems anymore?

No. I found this topic in the Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware Software forum which is not specifically for Windows 7 problems. In reading about your issues, you indicated Malwarebytes found 85 errors. Malwarebytes searches for and removes malware which you later confirmed to be quarantined PUP.Optionals. The appropriate forum for investigating and posting logs for review is this one (Am I infected? What do I do?). Thus, I moved it so Sirawit could continue to assist with investigating your problem and request more scans/logs if required.

Try this:

Please download Rkill by Grinler and save it to your desktop.

  • Link 1
    • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
    • If using Vista, right-click on it and Run As Administrator. (In case you cannot do so, just double click it.)
    • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
    • If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
    • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
  • Do not reboot the computer, you will need to run the application again.

Thank you.

Hi Sirawit, I tried everything you said above. I got the Black DOS Box reading this as last entry:

appdata doesn't exist! Rkill terminated!

Below the DOS Box appeared this dialogue box with Rkill Error in top left corner. Message reads:

There was a problem retrieving the necessary environment cariable:

  appdata. Rkill has terminated!

I even tried using Rkill with CNET and got the same results. I cannot get 'Run as administrator' command blocks to appear on drop down menus of ANY programs, software or anything! Firefox won't allow Rkill installations even when I tell it to allow it! The only way I can get the Firefox browser to evn open is to go to desktop and right click gadgets. Then under Gadgets I hit 'get more gadgets online' and Firefox opens on a page telling me they no longer use gadgets with Windows!

I still get my own gadgets on sidebars though so what is wrong? I ran Malwarebytes and it came up completely clean! Without my web and my Wordpad and my own writings and postings, I have no longer got any reason to go on living, my friends! Other than you guys and ladies online, I have NO FRIENDS! My family hates and ignores me and my brothers! Right now I wish I was dead! Maybe it's time to give up and await the Reaper's coming eh? I thank you for trying but maybe this is a way of telling me it's time to end it all! The web's my world and w/o it, I have nothing, Sirawit. Goodbye?- Jack  :smash:

Don't worry, we will try our best to get your computer back in working state. :)

Now reboot into Safe Mode.
This can be done tapping the F8 key as soon as you start your computer
You will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.
Make sure you choose the option without networking support.
Please see here for additional details.

After you booted into Safe Mode successfully, please try running rkill and minitoolbox again.

If you encountered any problems, please let me know.

Thank you.
