Hi Louis,

Any chance you can walk me through the same troubleshooting advice in this post?
I read this post and my laptop seems to be doing the same thing.

I downloaded the MiniToolBox and ran it pulling data on the three items you suggested.

Thanks in advance if you have the time to take a look, Louis! -Charlie

Here's what came back:

My system runs slow across the board...Windows, Browsers...the whole nine.
Accessing files on an external hard-drive, launching programs, when I click "Save" in a Powerpoint...takes forever to save changes.
Every function takes so long.

LiUnleashed (Version: 1.1.0.50)

What is that?  No such program, by my search.

Last malware scan you have run?

Last malware was probably a week or 10 days ago with malware bytes. Came out clean.

Well...I see no clues for your problems.  No indications of overheating, insufficient space, multiple malware programs conflicting, CPU overheating...none of the typical Windows issues that come through here, IMO.

I suggest that you run a full scan with your updated, installed AV program...and then run Malwarebytes...as we try to get a lead on where the next step lies.

If any malware items are detected by those two apps, I suggest that you initiate a new topic in the Am I Infected forum.

I just launched Malware Bytes and it looks like I have not run it for 90+ days!
I was thinking of my Desktop which I ran a week ago and thought it was my laptop.

I'm runnning Malware now. Probaly take a couple hours to go through all three drives.

Okay, great! Thank you, Louis.
Does it matter if I run Malware before AV?

Or should I stop the scan and fire up AV first, then run Malware?

Also, is there any security issue I should be concerned about with having all the data pulled and made public from Speccy and MiniToolBox?

You have a memory problem. Speccy says your system has 8 GB of memory and that Windows uses ~ 7 GB (86%) and have only ~ 1 GB free memory. It forces Windows to write/read A LOT OF data to/from the swapfile on your harddisk and that slows down your system. When Windows is forced to enlarge the swapfile then that takes A LOT OF time as well. (your swapfile is a massive 12 GB). I presume your harddisk is/was working overtime ?

- Defragment the pagefile (with e.g. Piriform's Defraggler). It speeds up the writing of data to the swapfile.

- Install PcWinTech's CLEANMEM (the basic features of this program are FREE). The program curtails memory usage and it can also collapse the file cache. (It seems the file cache is MASSIVE on your system.) Curtailing memory usage with this program causes Windows to postpone/reduce or even eliminate writing/reading data to/from the swap file on the harddisk which is (comparatively) time consuming.

Let the program run for a while and please report back ........

- You have both AVAST Antivirus & Windows Defender running. That also slows down your system. My advice is to disable Defender.

Willy22, thank you so much!

I will follow your advice and see what happens. I'll be back to post my results.

Defraggler won't work on the SSD. My C: drive is a 256 SSD where Windows is installed installed. Then I have a 750GB Seagate I partitioned. The D: drive is 256 and Acronis backs up the SSD to this drive. I have about 441GB left of the 750 for my storage.

This configuration hasn't been the best choice. The machine originally came with a Toshiba HD 1TB and I should have just bought two 1TB conventional HD and replaced the bad one and installed the other as backup.

Do you think having Windows installed on the SSD is causing all the slowing?
