Can someone help me out?

Whenever I go to sign in to steam (in case you haven't heard of it, its a program you need to play a lot of new pc games on) and whenever I go to access it, my computer freezes. I can use other programs fine but steam fixes my computer with a minute or so. As you can imagine, this is getting on my nerves a tad

Im using Windows XP pro, no idea about specific pc specs. Curious to how to fix this problem and would greatly appreciate your help

Just one more thing, I'm terrible with computers and all the jargon so please keep your answers as simple as possible

Cheers all!

1. Open the Steam client.

2. In the upper left corner of the Steam window, click Steam.

3. Scroll down and then click "check for steam client updates". If there are updates, install them.

4. Repeat the above procedure, but this time click "check for video driver updates". If there are updates, install them.

5. Reboot the machine,,, open the Steam client,,, see how it works now.
