I was on my computer yesterday, and out of the blue, no pun intended, all the white parts of my screen got these very thin blue live going vertically on my screen. When I did a screen shot to post it on facebook to ask my computer friends, they said it looked normal to them. I went on my phone, and low and behold, the screen shot looked normal. So I took a picture of my screen so they could see what I see. I'll attach it here. This is a huge problem for me as I use my computer for image editing, photography & photo gifts, so this makes me doing my job impossible. I'm not sure what you need, but I hope someone can help me.

I didn't see where you specified the computer type (laptop, etc).  If it is a desktop, check your monitor cable.  If it isn't on secure, it can eventually work loose, and cause the monitor to show things wrong.

Best of luck..

First...uninstall current graphics drivers, using Device Manager.

Then...reinstall same from Drivers CD or system manufacturer's website.

See if problem persists.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Sorry about that. I have a laptop. Acer Aspire with Windows 7. Like I said, I don't know all the info you need.

Louis, I don't know much about computers. I have no idea what my graphics driver is. If I uninstall it, won't my screen disappear? How will I know what I'm doing if I can't see it? I don't have a CD, nothing came with my laptop. How do I look it up online if I don't know what it is?

I will post the info you want below, but keep in mind I haven't uninstalled and reinstalled anything, as I don't know what it is I'm suppose to be doing that to.

Also, I didn't get notifications of reply's to my question on here, so I had no idea you two had replied. Do you know how I set it so I get emails when I get a reply?

Windows installs a graphics driver by default...it's the same driver that gives the lowered resolution seen when in safe mode.  When in safe mode, many drivers do not install (by design)...but you still have graphics :).

The Display Adapters line in Device Manager...reflects your graphics drivers.  Click the detail for that item...click the Drivers tab...click Uninstall, close and reboot.  Upon reboot, your system may automatically reinstall new graphics drivers.  If not, install from Drivers CD which came with system or via download from website of system manufacturer.  If you have an OEM system (made by HP, Dell, etc.), you should always get drivers from the website...or use the originals which came on the Drivers disk.

OK. I uninstalled it twice and reinstalled it twice, and even after I uninstalled it before reinstalling it, it still had the bleu thin vertical stripes. So unfortunately, that didn't work. :-(

PS. I have no idea what an OEM is or where to find the drivers online, and no disc came with my laptop.

PSS. Also, when I uninstall it, it ask's if I want to delete the driver software off the computer. Should I be deleting it also, or just uninstalling it?

I would delete it.

You know how to use Google, right?  Well...the manufacturer of your laptop is an Original Equipment Manufacturer, as distinguished from those of us who assemble our systems from the basic coponents.  An OEM sells you the finished product.  In your case...Acer is the manufacturer/OEM of your notebook.

It's not sarcasm...when one asks a pertinent question in a given situation, IMO.  But, you can interpret it that way, if it makes you happy :).  FTR, Google is great for looking up terms, abbreviations, etc (of which there are many) that exist in ComputerLand.

Based on the info I can dig up, it appears to me that your CPU is overheating.  Overheating can cause strange effects on a system, although i can't really say that it's the cause fo your video situation.

Info On CToolbar.exe

Why does your Speccy data reflect 3 partitions...while MiniToolBox reflects a single partition for your hard drive?  I don't think I've ever seen that difference before.

Looking at the errors reported on MiniToolBox...you have varying errors, none of which point to any one thing in particular, IMO.  In such cases, I tend to think of either malware situations or hardware situations that need address.

Moving topic from Win 7 to Internal Hardware.

I wish I could help you help me. To be honest, I've come here for help before, and always managed to have my issues fixed, with very little knowledge of the in's and out's of computers. I feel I have more questions then answers now/ I don't know why one "reflects 3 partitions" and one just a single one. I've googled "partitions" and still don't even understand what that is. If I have a lot of errors or malware, how do I go about fixing that. If my CPU is overheating, does that mean this is a permanent damage to my laptop? Is there something you wanted me to do with the CToolbar.exe thing? I know being a computer tech savy person, its probably hard to understand that someone doesn't know all of this stuff, but thats why I came here for help. If I knew, I could figure it out myself. So, think of me as a computer virgin.  If you don't think you can help me, is there a way to ask someone else to help who is willing to work with a computer illiterate person.

Try jiggling the screen a whole bunch, like trying it at different angles, half closed open as far as it can go etc, to see if you can knock the blue out of it. (seriously)

Yeah I'm serious. I don't mean to be so rough with it that you damage it. My point is if you move the lid up and down, and like as far back as it goes (not in a damaging way), you may see the blue stuff flickering on and off or something like that. If you do, then it suggests the cable that connects the base of the laptop to the monitor part is loose. And IF that was the case, nothing else will fix it other than re-seating the connection so it isn't loose. It may not be that at all, just something to try.

Hi, One simple suggestion, Try an external Monitor and see if the Line(s) persist there. From Your opening post I suspect they may not show on a external monitor. If they are absent then that points to the cable connection the screen to the base or the screen.

If they are present then it tends to point to The Video adapter or a software issue.

there is a remote possibility that bad memory being used by the video can also be causing this problem.

A simple test. When You power on the laptop can You go into the Bios Setup screen. It could be helpful to know if this problem exists before Windows starts to load. If So then that puts it into the hardware realm. The drivers load as windows is loading.

At this time without that simple test of a external monitor or preboot display it is impossible to pin the problem down.

FWIW what bludshot was suggesting is a test for a defective cable or one that is loose at either end. Basically You open and close the screen slowly while observing it to see if the image changes.

If this is Your Model laptop "Acer Aspire 7551G" then this is a link to a hardware  guide.

"how to disassemble an Acer Aspire 7551G laptop"

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-acer-aspire-7551g-laptop/

I have put it here for reference only right now as there are a lot of delicate connectors in a laptop.

Good Luck

Roger
