Recently, I've been regularly seeing the "outdated java plugin detected" virus/spyware popup on pages I have been visiting in Firefox (v29.0.1), with a suspicious html address.  I have tried suggestions like using MalwareBytes, running root kit scans using Kaspersky tools and other freeware tools and resetting Firefox to default (even reinstalling it), all to no avail.   I have even tried manual removal methods, but can never find the strings that are quoted in these solutions.   There appears to be no suspicious programs in my list of installed programs, but I suspected something has infected my computer. The popup keeps returning.    I  am posting the DSS log and the image of the popup I am receiving. I would be very grateful is someone could give me some expert assistance on this.

Regards,

Good evening. :)

Can you give me an example of the pages that you are on when you see the pop-up. It may be being generated by the sites that you are on rather than being on your system.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

You may be right.   I have noticed it particularly on this site:

Thanks for your reply.  Sorry, my last post got cut.

You may be right.  I have noticed it particularly on this site /www.gooddrama.net.    It doesn't seem to occur when I visit it via Internet Explorer, however.   I use Firefox because I prefer the add-ons that it has available.

Good evening. :)

Have you installed:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/

You may find that they resolve the problem. Keep an eye on the surfing for a day or three and let me know if the pop-ups are widespread or limited to one/a few sites.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Thank you Noviciate, I didn't have those addons installed, but have installed them now. I'll let you know if I experience any further issues on that site or others.

Hi Noviciate, I have now tried those addons for a couple of days and have not experienced any further issues. So I suspect it was a popup being generated from the website. I realized that certain scripts are required for the sites to run, but this was not a big problem and I only allowed those that appeared to be connected with the site itself. This did the trick. THanks again for your assistance and you can consider this issue now resolved.

Always a pleasure. As this issue appears to have been resolved, this thread is now closed.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.
