Hi y'all,

I woke up one morning with severe migraine and a blazefind searchfield in my XP taskbar. The migraine's gone, the searchbar's still there. I know this funky lil' gizmo HijackThis is supposed to help me out, but those logs are giving me another migraine!

Can anybody help me out?
Thanks in advance.

twaintec.dll wasn't there

only:

twaintec.ini
twain.dll
twain_32.dll

mrxoifu.exe wasn't there no more either

the search bar is still there, but the Xpstyle green 'enter button' (arrow) is gone. It's just the field and the text 'Search here' and 'Searh' now.

another log if you need it,
but it's probably the same...

(by the way I'm gonna catch some sleep now, please don't abandon me  ... I'll be back on this as soon as I can)

The log looks good. What does this toolbar look like? Does it have a name or anything like that?

If you search with the toolbar what searchengine is it using?

Go into add/remove programs and remove the following if they exist:

IE SearchBar
Windows SA
Windows Search Functions
Internet Explorer SearchBar

Let me know if that removes the bar at the bottom while i research it more

thanks,

only Windows SA was in the list to be removed, so I unistalled that one and got an 'uninstall message' - however, when I rebooted, the thing was still there.

In my Add/Remove Programs list, I think the following entries are suspect as well... can you tell me it's safe to remove them?

- Uninstall 180 Search Assistant
- Windows SR 2.0

*dang* *dang* *dang* *dang*

I removed both of these

- Uninstall 180 Search Assistant
- Windows SR 2.0

and the damned thing is still there!

Could it have something to do with the fact that maybe this thing installed itself through the wifeys user profile and I'm doing all this troubleshooting on mine?

Also, since I've been trying to fix this thing, I've got this truckload of backup files on my desktop or something, does this help you in analyzing the problem further?

Those backup files are from hijackthis. To make it cleaner create a directory on your c:\ drive called hijackthis and copy the execuitable and all the backups into that directory.

Its possible that its from yuor wifes profile, but not sure. Post a hijackthis log of her profile and we will see if there is anything in there.

I want to fix this searchbar onm your task bar. If your willing I would like to try some things.

Download and install reglite:
http://www.resplendence.com/download/reglite.exe

When it is done downloading, install it , then run it by clicking on the icon on your desktop.

When it opens paste this key in the address field:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved

And press enter. Then i want you to right click on the approved key in the left pane and choose export. Save it your desktop and name it blaze.

Then go to your desktop and right click on blaze.reg and click on edit. This will open the file in notepad. Please paste the contents in a reply to this post.
