I have an older computer, a Toshiba Satellite A215, 32-bit, 2.0 GB RAM, running Vista home premium service pack 2.

I loaned the computer to a former student for a semester and when I got it back it had some viruses. After running antivirus programs it seemed to be fine for a while.

Recently I noticed that my memory was filling up quickly. I backed up all my data and began deleting things I didn't need, but as soon as I clear up some space it disappeared again within a couple of hours.

I have run multiple anti malware/virus programs including MalwareBytes and AVG both show that there are no viruses or malware currently on my computer. I have emptied my recycle bin, run disk cleanup, and run CCleaner.

I have been unable to determine what is taking up memory and am currently down to 990 MB of free memory (of 296 GB capacity) and have nothing left to delete.

Please help!

Am I wrong thinking you are actually speaking of HD space not memory.

You're correct, I meant hard drive. Sorry, I'm a bit tech challenged.

Make a new post in am I infected, noting the loss of hard drive space.  There are some good people up there to help you.
