I've been searching for about a week now & downloaded various codec packages to retrieve sound, unfortunately no success.

Following the reinstall, the computer is back to normal (speed-wise), just no sound with it,

I've done all the idiot (connection) checks & tested the monitor speakers through another device, the volume channel is unmuted, all seems OK,

When I've followed the advice from microsoft & ran a test, it comes back with - digital device is working normally.

It tells me no drivers need updating & when I click on the the speaker icon to open the volume level there's no column with a speaker in it (how I remember it), but 2 columns, 1 with digital output device & the other is windows sounds. But no audio coming through.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Best

Speccy

You need to install the drivers for your onboard audio device or sound card.

old rocker - you're brilliant

I had tried doing this from automatic updates but it didn't work, when I selected the manual option on the motherboard disc, it found the missing sound device.

Many thanks

Speccy
