Hi. Been running XP for a while on a laptop, not used it recently but last week it automatically downloaded SP3; previously only running SP2.
Past few days realised that the set has been rebooting after close down. Googled for ideas etc some of which I have applied.
In bios have switched off all that I can see about rebooting and also in System/advanced unticked auto reboot. I have even used one of the so called free tech sites which installs a program to follow. Have noticed that Checkdisc keeps coming up every now and again.
Before I format the hard drive and reinstall every thing, thought I would try you guys.

Set is an HP NX6310

ps I am not a techy, only learnt things via many years of playing; I'm a silver surfer so to speak!!!

Any ideas please.

Run the chkdsk /r command.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter.  Type y in new screen and hit Enter.  Reboot...the command will run before booting into Windows upon completion.

If chkdsk /r does not complete or an error comes onscreen indicating that it cannot complete...post same here.
