Hi all,

How are you doing?

Ok, so here it goes...

A few weeks ago my VLC started causing me problems. Every time I would watch a video, a white film would overlay the video for a few seconds. This went on until someone somehow fixed it. All he did was update the bios drivers & the video drivers. I believe I also uninstalled & reinstalled VLC prior to that which didn't help.

I was also getting the audio cutting in & out every few minutes so I couldn't hear the words. If I rewound it, it wouldn't happen in the same spot. I thought it was the USB stick, but after testing other sticks, same problem. I think it was better when we tested it by saving it to the computer, but I can't remember. I do have a USB hub.

That problem still hasn't been solved.

Now today I decided to call ASUS as I have their motherboard (I'm on a desktop & no it's not their desktop, I didn't even know they made custom desktops until today LOL). Anyway, the guy wanted to know what RAM I had & so after that he had me change the speed of it in the BIOS to 800.

He also had me update the audio drivers, but refused to stay on the phone with me & when I restarted, my speakers wouldn't work.

I freaked out, called back & their Filipino call center had me take the checkmark off of headset & move it to speakers. That worked, but this update & bios change did NOT solve the VLC issues.

Anyway, someone just called me on Skype & now my headset won't work, his voice is coming thru the speakers! Grrr, I'm very frustrated by all of this.

How do I get both the speakers & headset to work with the headset only working when I plug it in? This is the normal way it should be behave.

Also I sort of ruled out the speakers being the issue b/c sometimes when I'm on Skype it cuts out (a lot less than on VLC), but now the first ASUS techi said that doesn't mean it's not the speakers b/c the headset runs thru the speakers. Is that true?

There has been static on the speakers for several months now, but when I moved from a different country to the US, it stopped, so I assumed it was the dirty electricity in the other country & just th either day it started again. It happens randomly & no, not when I'm plugging anything in, now it's happening sometimes even when my "You got mail" goes off. It's very infrequent.

I hope you can figure out what the problem is. I NEVER had these issues before.

Thank you sooo much :)

Michelle

P.S. there is a noise it makes when it cuts in & I don't know how to describe it.

When the person called me on Skype, the skype window didn't pop up twice. It finally did on his 3rd & 4th try.

The audio now overall is a lot louder then it was before.

When I adjust the volume on the speakers, it makes the crackling noise, not all the time, but it did ealier.

I don't have another set of speakers to test it out & they aren't cheap to buy.

For some reason my Skype windows have changed color since the changes today. Very very strange.

Ok, so after spending an hour with Asus on the phone plus a 35 minute hold time, the headphones are fixed. It was the update that caused all the issues : (

As for the other issues, he's convinced it's the MB & we have to replace it.

I'm upset now, as I have to find someone to take out the old one & replace it with the new one & I don't trust techies easy.

Anyone know of anyone in Vegas they trust? LOL

Thanks

Michelle

I'm sorry for not being able to reply to you ep2002 but just to confirm if its a hardware issue, please backup your data/files/documents/bookmarks externally then do a clean reinstall to make sure no corrupt drivers and or incompatible software or drivers were installed. Secondly, a sound card is another option if your built-in card behaves faulty as it just needs replacement.

Please close this thread.

Another person figured out what it was within 20 minutes after installing software that shows you what's happening with your computer, like your memory, HD, etc.

It was non of these in the end, it was software called Crash Plan that was causing all the issues & it may be a Windows issue even after I tried to get Windows to fix Windows. Which it did & it solved the problem for a few days & now it's back again.
