Okay, I know Spore is an old game, and I know NOTHING works on Windows 8, but I still want to try to fix this.

I just recently got back into the game, and I was able to play through a few stars completely. Just earlier today, in the Space Stage, I got the error message "Spore has stopped working". I ran the Windows 8 troubleshooter, and it set the game to compatibility mode for Windows Vista Service Pack 2, which is ironic, because the game is even worse on my Vista. Just a few minutes ago, right when I entered the Tribal stage, I got the same error message.

It also seems that when Spore was run from Vista compatibility, it was more laggish.

I have heard that people have been complaining with some other games because no matter what they try, they can't get Windows 8 to play some older games. I really don't want this to be the case, because I really like Spore.

Should I try reinstalling it? I am worried that this would only fix the problem temporarily.

I also ran the game on a Windows 7 laptop a while back. It worked perfectly until, all of a sudden, the graphics card wasn't supported. I think Spore itself has some problems.

Any help appreciated.

-By the way, Spore is made by Electronic Arts. I have a similar problem with Need for Speed Pro Street (Another old game I know), also made by EA. It freezes after the race. Might it just be EA's games that have issues with Windows 8?

EDIT: Also, I am a noob at Windows 8, I can't seem to find the compatibility tab in the properties :(

EDIT 2: I use in-game cheat codes, could this be adding to the problem?

Compatibility mode help... http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/6832-compatibility-mode-use-windows-8-a.html .

I also suggest you go to the EA game forums for help. Many folks have, no doubt, had this problem and their forums should have advice.
