I'm having a problem with my product key. My windows 7 crashed, was reinstalled with Vista Home Basic. Now it won't accept my key. I can't afford to buy one. Is there any solution to this problem. I never thought about the key when we did the reinstall. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If the key was valid when installed you can activate it by phone. If it does not activate by phone, you can Contact a rep from Microsoft and explain the problem. They are usually very good at resolving the activation problem.

The key must match the original version it came with. You say you had Windows 7 and are using the key with vista. That won't work. Also the version of windows must match as well, if it was Windows 7 home premium you can't use professional.

As stated...you don't seem to have a valid license/key for your current Windows install.

I thank everyone that tried to help. I fixed it by doing a factory default. It's fine now and activated! Woo Hoo!
