Looks like a friends notebook has this ransomware.

CPU will boot into Windows but won't let me do anything but reboot.

Can't run any programs, can't even view explorer.

Looks like the programs might be opening up because there is an icon on the taskbar, but clicking on the icon on the taskbar will not display the program.

I've booted into Ubuntu from a usb and copied all the data files over to a network drive.

Can't install any scanning software like Malwarebytes Antimalware in Win7.

This was all in safemode of course.

Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

Any help for my buddy would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

G'day Chris,

Looks like THIS

You can either attempt this yourself......or have someone HERE guide you through. (Be Patient if you post here....they are extremely busy)

Please Fully read and follow the instructions in the Preparation Guide For Requesting Help starting at Step #6.

Note :If you are unable to complete any step, still post the topic and leave a full description of your problems.

When you have done that, start a new topic and post the required logs to
Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum forum, NOT Here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team Experts.

Please Use Copy / Paste for your responses, and Do Not Attach them unless your helper requests this.

If HelpBot responds to your topic, please follow his Step #1 so the team will be notified.

After doing this, please reply back in this thread with a link to the new topic so we can close this one.

Thank you, the hitmanpro.kickstart worked like a dream, followed up with MBAM, AdwCleaner, JRT, and TFC.

Everything is working great again.
