I have been trying to rebuild my win 7 installation after my computer was hacked and rootkitted.  Downloaded the newest drivers for my ASUS motherboard prior to reinstalling the OS.

The intel drivers seem to be exhibiting odd behavior - Management engine components are asking for permission to run at startup.    Have also been running scans trying to determine whether the computer has reinfected itself somehow.

This morning I reviewed my log file from TDSSKiller.  The entry for GMScommon.dll in the  intel management engine components dir degenerates into invalid characters, after which the logfile ends.  I am not sure if this is corruption in the driver files or a sign of a further infection.

Any ideas?

Thanks.  I have run malwarebytes and came up empty.  Will try Eset.

What I am wondering is if the problem with the driver is derailing the scans when they hit that unreadable patch.

The name of the program asking for exe permissions at startup is jusb3mon.exe, it purports to be a signed file from Intel Corp.

jusb3mon.exe is not needed at startup.  If you wish to remove it from the startup list I would suggest downloadng Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel, us this program to remove the program from the startup list.

Please run the other to scans I requested and post the results.

OK. Sorry for the disappearance, had to do some things.  I have been avoiding logging into anything from windows until I determine if it has anything going rogue, will try it from there now.

ESET scan is turning up some "potentially unsafe" applications... wondering if I am supposed to post the scan results in a different forum than here?  Apologies for being unfamiliar with your process...

ESET scan found variants of Win32/Bundled.Toolbar.Google.C in two utility programs I had bought from an apparently dodgy source :/ .  As far as I could tell the only thing those did was keep directing me back to their website to try to get me to buy their other utilities whenever I ran one of them.

MBAM scans found nothing.

oh and, the following was found in my recycle bin, something I had deleted without running for this install, but which I had probably run on the old installation:

F:\$RECYCLE.BIN\S-1-5-21-3426352482-447532385-3425923024-1000\$RRI44QX.exe    a variant of Win32/Bundled.Toolbar.Google.C potentially unsafe application    deleted - quarantined

Screen is staying black too long on windows boot (before login), and if I try to restart from login it hangs :/    Leaning towards driver corruption at this point.  Given the weirdness in the orignial driver file I posted I am thinking it's the basic chipset ones.   wondering if I need to strip it down to bare again to repair that, or, leave apps in but redo all the drivers, or....?

Please finish your scans and post all three logs, I want to see all three.  Until we know what is going on in the way of infections we can't move on.  If you are infected, trying to make other repairs could exacerbate the situation.

It looks like you don't have any malicious items.

One of the things that can result from cleaning infections out is damage to files.  I would suggest running sfc /scannow.

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces corrupted and incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Click on the Sart orb and then type cmd in the Search programs and files box.

In the pane above the search box Programs will appear with cmd below it, right click on cmd and choose Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, enter the password, or click Allow.

A page similar to the one below will open.

commandprompt_zps212bc71a.png

Type in sfc /scannow and then press Enter to start the scan.  Please notice the space between sfc and the /scannow.

If the scan finds no integrity  problems in the first portion of the scan it should stop, to be sure that the scan has stopped wait five minutes, then type in exit and press Enter to stop the scan.

When the scan is finished please post the log of this scan.

To find sfc /scannow file type cmd, run as administrator, copy and paste the following, then press Enter.

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

This will place a new icon on the desktop titled sfcdetails.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Hi, the scan didn't find any integrity violations.  This is a new installation of Win7.  I think the problem is that I must have somehow installed my non-MS drivers improperly, I used drivers that were downloaded from the ASUS website because MS doesn't have those, and my first attempt I made the mistake of installing them from a usb connected device.

I can't access the sfc log file due to having downgraded my account to standard, and the command to create the icon didn't work.  Please let me know if you still need the log from it; if so I can swap accounts and find it.
