Hi - I am brand new to this site and this is the first time I have looked for help online...so please forgive me if I am breaking any rules that I am unaware of or appearing like a moron...I couldn't find any topics that related to mine so I am posting.

My problem = I am trying to get rid of some pop-up ads that have become very annoying + my computer is running unusually slow.  What I have done so far - I have restored my system back 30 days (when computer life was still beautiful).  I have uninstalled anything that was added in the last 4 weeks that I don't need or recognize.  I have deleted some extensions found on google chrome that were suspect.  I tried to run AdwCleaner 3.023 but got an error message saying i had an outdated version of AdwCleaner.  From what I can tell 3.023 is the newest version so I don't know what to do now...can anyone help me with this.

I have a Lenovo laptop with Windows 7 and I use Google Chrome (begrudgingly).  I am not a computer whiz (really) but I can follow directions.

Thanks.

Just looked here....AdwCleaner Download

It says... Version: 3.0.2.4........Uninstall the version you have by opening it and clicking on uninstall. Then install the latest from my link.

You should run these programs, too:

  • download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
  •
  • ESET.
  • Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
  • Click the esetonlinebtn.png button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
  • Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu.png icon on your desktop.
  • Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
  • Click the Start button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click List Threats
  • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Click the Back button.
  • Click the Finish button.
  • NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.
  • download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
    Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Use CCleaner to cleanup the temporary files, logs, cookies, etc. Use the default settings. Pay attention while

installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars such as Yahoo. No need to use the Registry Cleaner tool and it has

the potential of causing another problem. CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
