Hey guys,

Back in 2006 we purchased a laptop for my father who needed a laptop that in the event it ever required service it was to have an international warranty because he lives outside the U.S. At that time there was only one OEM who gave an international warranty included with their required 1 yr parts & labor warranty and I believe that was Fujitsu only.

Fast forward to 2014 and im curious if any other OEM's are now offering international warrantys as part of their base 1 yr warranty, and, if not, whether any OEM's provide the "extra" warranty one could purchase which would include international warranty.

And also any information about OEM's and their warranties in general is greatly appreciated, such as:

-Acer: do they have a 1-800 number yet? any support phone numbers for that matter? I remember back in 2006 they did not....

-IBM/Lenovo for example offers a professional courtesy repair after an extended warranty expires0

-Macintosh/Apple do they offer an international warranty?

...this type of information is very helpful in choosing the right OEM warranty and subsequently the right OEM for my fathers imminent laptop purchase

What if any were your experiences with international warranties and other information of that type would be greatly appreciated.

I do know that Lenovo offers international warranty service. However, I do not remember if I got that included with my W520 or not. It is also unclear from the website, other than noting that my machine certainly does qualify for it. The new w540 is listed as "qualified" as well - with no specific option to buy IWS extra. It would appear that as long as your machine qualifies, you get IWS. Now that is a guess, and one would have to ask them specifically.

Sorry, I know that isn't a lot of help, but at least we know it is available.

I believe HP's business line has an International warranty, but it also has to be purchased where it will be serviced.  (I was unable to repair a machine from a different country when it was in the US, they had to wait until they got home).
