I tried to install an older piece of software on my XP SP3 machine, and always got the error message: "The InstallShield Engine (ikernel) could not be launched.  No such interface supported."

I tried every solution on the web to no avail.  I then tried to install the software on my laptop and was successful (same OS).  I copied the  c: \Program Files\Common\InstallShield directory to a flash drive, copied that onto my desktop, and it worked!  Much easier than all the gymnastics others had recommended.
