I turned my computer on, got the message "...updating do not turn off your computer...", it did it's thing, got the screen to enter my password, did that and it went south from there.

The error message starts out like this: "C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable..."

It goes on to say that it may have been moved.

I do find that it did create a restore point just before updating.

Is it safe to restore it then?

There are 4 icons on the left and the "program bar" along the bottom.

I can access the programs and files from the "start" button so it looks like it's all still there.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try the restore do it to one day before, it can not hurt and may get you out of this.  Seems like some of these updates are not quite right, could be they have their hands full there has been a major security breach world wide.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I did the system restore and after it did it's thing I got the message:

"System Restore completed successfully... Your documents have not been affected."

Darn it - now I have to finish my taxes (lol).

So does that mean that the Windows Update is reversed?

System Restore is very tricky ... if you have some virus you can restore it too with this operation ... Suddenly updates is a smart trick used by malware to install themselvs into computers check carefully if the really come from Microsoft or some hacked - spoofed site ... if you have W 7 you can see all updates history somewhere in Action Center - Windows Updates :warrior:

As of late there have been a few buggy updates, they seem to fix them fairly quick.  Keep your fingers crossed, happy MSing!!!!!!!!!!!
