Granted, it's been only two days since I posted http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/529980/opening-browser-always-displays-puzzling-error/

and although I have gotten 75 views, I have not received a single reply.  I thought the title was intriguing, the content interesting, yet My Computer Is Hopeless  posted just a few hours ago has already been viewed 78 times and has gotten 7 replies.  Why is that?

The other topic I'd been following,

Missing some Programs in Programs and Features (Uninstall a Program) Menu is now sitting partway down page 2 and has 255 views but zero replies.

I'm just trying to get a handle on what constitutes a reply generating question.  Did Windont and I provide too much information or not enough?  What is it about some threads that bring nearly instantaneous responses?  While others slowly move to the back of the bus.

I can sympathize. I posted a topic nearly 4 hours ago that has gotten 100 views but no replies. I think it's because the topic has been covered many times before. I went back and edited my post to explain that have made several efforts to fix the problem (I read back over previous posts to see what I could do on my own), but I still can't make any progress. I am hoping someone will take pity. :/

It's hard not to point out the irony of my post wondering how topics get prioritized has already garnered 4 responses in just a few hours, while my original post has received one.  And the one it received was a suggestion to move it to the 'Am I Infected' forum.   Which I did.  So now it sits gathering dust somewhere else.  Sigh......

That is a specialised section there are only a few trained people on this site who deal with malware while there a lots of people seeking help.

The malware team all do this for free because they are nice guys and gals and want to help the rest of us please be patient with them remember they also have real lives with work school families etc, If you post has not been answered in 3 days then there is a thread to deal with that.

Topics with the newest comments are listed first, or at least that is how mine are sorted.  I can't answer why a lot of people are looking at a post, but not commenting on it.  For me I may be interested in the topic, but don't have any assistance to provide.  Four hours isn't really that long.  Most of us do this in our spare time, for me this is my second forum I visit and I don't normally visit on the weekends.

Well the 4 hour business has nothing to do with me. I fully realize that getting an answer on a technical forum after such a short period of time would be miraculous. In my case I've now gone 3 days without a reply. Of course 2 of those days were spent in the Windows 8 subforum, but using that forum seemed reasonable. I had a problem that I thought was W8 related - maybe some dll file needed to be re-registered, maybe some switch got set that shouldn't be, etc. Besides, I saw a topic in this W8 forum that mimicked part of my problem
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/529761/missing-some-programs-in-programs-and-features-uninstall-a-program-menu/
That thread has gone without a response for four days now while a thread with the title Can Someone Help Me Out Here? gets 6 replies in half a day.

I realize that everybody here is answering posts for free and we greatly appreciate the time and effort expended. But sometimes, while waiting for a answer of any sort, one begins to feel like somebody who's been standing in the supermarket checkout line while all these other carts cut in fron of them.

Part of the issue with your post is that you have already done what most people would advise.  That is the main reason that there isn't much response to it.  As OldPhil said it probably should go in the Am I Infected forum.

People will post a suggestion if they are familiar with the issue, otherwise they will move on. Obviously, since Networking isn't my strong suit, you won't see me posting in that forum anytime soon...
