Can you tell us what the file extension is?
The error message indicates that you have not "associated" an application that should open that kind of file type. You can easily do this by going to the file itself, right clicking on it, and then going to Properties; the "general" tab will indicate the file type, and what (if any in your case) it "opens with:".
Now, if you click on the "change" button, you should get another box that lists available applications from which you can choose. Once you have decided and highlighted the correct application, be sure to check the box underneath the list that says "always use this program to open files of this type" (or something very close, depending on your version of Windows) and then click on "OK."

Hope this helps- - -but if you have questions, don't hesitate to reply.
Regards,
John

Hello!

Thanks for your help! Here is what happened when I followed your directions:

http://i4.tinypic.com/103cttz.jpg

What should I do next? What would cause this to happen on these particular files and not the others?

Thanks!
Michele

It appears from the jpeg that the file is a .doc, which would open in MS Word, or in some instances, MS Works. You might want to check to determine the exact file type, though. (Change "views" in the My Document Folder to "details"). Do you have either of these applications installed on your computer? If so, then simply set up the association.
If not, you can download a MSWord viewer (which will allow you to read and print, but not edit .doc files):

Other freeware options that will open .doc files, and allow you to modify them if you wish, can be found here, under Office Applications:

Even if you do not have MS Word you can get Word Viewer free from Microsoft.
