I was recently working on an infected computer with pop ups all over.  I got rid of everything but one popup Backup Duty Lite.

This was a newer computer running windows 7.

I ran the following tools:

Combofix

Malwarebytes

Adware removal tool

Junkware removal tool

Superanti-virus

Emisoft antimalware

This program does not show up under add/remove programs.

I reset all the browsers.   When I reboot the computer and just let it sit,  next time I checked it, it would have the Backup Duty Lite popup showing.

I am not comfortable messing in the registry.

can anyone suggest a tool that might fix this type of problem?

See if Revo Uninstaller Free can find and remove it. Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Looking a bit on the web it actually installs files of that name...Backup Duty Lite.

If Revo doesn't take care of the problem, do a file search. If you find it, it may be necessary to remove while in safe mode.

Eset online scanner has had success in finding and removing similar programs. Free Virus Scan | Online Virus Scanner from ESET

Did the search for the files find anything?

Post a list of installed programs. You can use MiniToolBox.

  • Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.
