I just reset my computer to factory default after losing everything to the CryptoDefense malware. The first time I tried it blue screened during the process but the second time it worked fine. Now however it runs somewhat slowly, it also frequently hangs up, whatever is running will stall out and it seems to stop responding to commands such as ctrl alt delete and the like. Also several times now when I walk away from it when I come back it will have shut down, I suspect it is bluescreening when this happens. I also seem to have problems running anything, for instance when I play Counter Strike Source it will randomly lock up and whatever sound was playing last will repeat and the screen will be frozen. Strangely the lock up with Counter Strike both times occurred when the same user was talking over the microphone.

I am not sure what to do and would really like to get my laptop running the way it used to. It is a Dell Inspirion running Windows 7 service pack 1 with an intel i5.

First thing is you have avast and mcafee installed, running two AV's at the same
Time could be problematic, fully uninstall mcafee.

If you cant get on the system long enough to follow the below instruction, it would be very helpful

Upload the actual crash dump files.

You will find the crash dump files inside C:\Windows\Minidump folder. To copy the dumps, disable "User Account Control" first. Otherwise you may receive a permission error. After disabling UAC, copy and zip all the dumps using 7-zip ( http://www.7-zip.org ). Either attach the zip with next reply using "More reply options --> Attach files" or use a free file hosting site.

For example -> http://www.mediafire.com/

I found the Minidump folder and disable UAC but there was nothing in the folder.

Ccleaner may have removed dump files...the default setting for what is removed includes dump files, IIRC.

Ahh, didn't realize that, I will have to change that. It is running somewhat better now that McAfee is gone, it seems to be a bit quicker now that I am just using avast.

Ok so I managed to get a dump file after my latest BSoD. I have attached it to this post, apparently there was a settings problem as well as the fact the CCleaner would have deleted it anyway. After deleting McAfee things are running much, much quicker and smoother but I am still having problems installing or playing most games and I have had two BSoDs.

Ok, so there was only one crash dump, but i found some clues to your blue screen issues first was nvkflt.sys, This is related to Nvidia, So please go to the nvidia website, uninstall your current graphics drivers and install the latest ones. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Second was WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for igdkmd64.sys

There was a lot of mention of this in the crash dump, and this is related to your Intel HD graphics driver. You can look for an update here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx

After you have done that, i am guessing your laptop runs intel graphics then uses your dedicated video card when needed? Follow this guide to only use your dedicated GPU and see if it resolves your issue if updating drivers does not.

On steps 7 ,add all your game executable and set "High Performance Nvidia Processor" as the preferred graphic processor for all of them.
