Presently, I’m having an issue with Chrome not loading specific content on Aweber.com, and when that same content is sometimes loaded from Firefox, it crashes both itself and Chrome, and sometimes, other programs.

This error also will occur sometimes if I launch Steam (SteamPowered.com) while running Chrome. Chrome will crash, as well as the Steam client. (I can only assume this is because they’re sharing something, but I don’t know what.) I know that Steam uses a type of browser internal to it so you can browse the store, interact with other users, etc.

Here’s what occurs most often, and how I can generally duplicate it.

If I go into Chrome and try to compose a new email in Aweber, it just says “Loading” and does nothing. I think this uses Flash, judging from the source code on the page. Doing this same activity in Firefox will, more often than not, crash Firefox, Chrome, and sometimes “unrelated” applications such as Spotify and Notepad++, which occurred the other day. They literally start crashing one after another, in some sort of chain reaction. Apps running in the tray (Evernote, Google Drive, etc.) are unaffected.

Sometimes, in Firefox, the ability to compose a new email in Aweber comes up and works flawlessly. I notice I have the most success with this after rebooting, and going right into Firefox without letting the computer run for some time.

Sometimes when going into Aweber in Chrome or Firefox, it just loads up the text for the pages, and no images. Usually, a refresh will take care of this. I don’t have this happen on other websites. It’s very weird when this happens and it happens pretty frequently, but it doesn’t crash anything.

While I know a lot of this seems to be Aweber centric, the fickle nature of this makes me wonder what’s really causing the problem. Is it Flash? Something corrupted within Flash? Something completely unrelated that causes Firefox to crash then brings down other programs with it? (The Steam thing really makes it funky. And, the Steam client also seems to use Flash in places when it’s loading certain pages.)

Here’s what I have done so far to find a solution:

  • I have run Malwarebytes to see if there was anything occurring, and nothing has come up. I made sure to update it as well before scanning.
  • I’ve contacted Aweber, but they don’t seem to have an answer to my problem after several go rounds with them.
  • I’ve run Chrome in Safe mode (launching it with chrome.exe --incognito) but this doesn't help.
  • I’ve reinstalled Chrome, even running it in safe mode, but still have the same problem with the Aweber compose box not coming up.
  • I’ve reached out to Steam, and they’re telling me that this issue only happens to a small set of customers, and to reinstall Windows.
  • Today, I even uninstalled Firefox, Flash, and Chrome, and only reinstalled Chrome to see if that helped, and it did not. (I know Flash is internal to Chrome, but I figured what the heck… I’ll try uninstalling it anyway.)
  • I’ve also tried clearing all cached information in Chrome, but that doesn’t seem to help.

I don’t know if this helps, but here are some system / software specs:

Windows 7 Premium - SP1 (64 bit)

System specs:

Intel Core i7-3610QM @ 2.30Ghz

8GB RAM

Chrome: 33.0.1750.154 m

Firefox: 28.0

Flash: not installed anymore

Anything else I can try or do? Is there possibly something I’m overlooking here? Is there any other type of information I can provide that I haven't provided yet?

Thank you very much!

You’re experiencing Chrome crashes due to conflicts between browser installed modules. Run the browser without loading any add-ons, disable the sandbox feature, reset your DNS settings and so on. I’m sure this will fix up Chrome crashes.

Clear Cache Contents and Temp Files:

1. Click Wrench, select Tools | Clear browsing data.

2. A new page would open.

3. Choose “The beginning of time” from the drop down control.

4. Make sure that all checkboxes are checked-up.

5. Click “Clear browsing data” button.

Remove Corrupt User Profile Data Files:

1. Exit Google Chrome.

2. Double click My Computer desktop icon.

3. Open below directory:

C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

4. Remove all contents from the “Default” folder.

Thanks for the response! I will say I did find the problem with Aweber. It was a plugin that I was running on both Chrome and Firefox that prevented it from completely loading.

I tried just what you mentioned about 24 hours ago, in the hopes of clearing up my random crashing issue. I cleared everything out of Chrome, and removed the entire user profile from C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default.

It actually seemed to run fine for about 12 hours or more. Then, about an hour ago, three programs I had open crashed. First, Chrome crashed, then Steam, then Skype... all one after the other. Perhaps Chrome is not the issue. I do find that it's very odd how sometimes these seemingly unrelated items close together.

Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you!

Download MiniToolBox and run the program. Select
List Last 10 Event Viewers, List Installed Programs and List Users, Partitions and Memory Size then click Go.
A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

:step1: Install a free antivirus http://windows.microsoft.com/en-PH/windows/security-essentials-download

:step2: Install the latest version of Malwarebytes by removing the current version and downloading the current free scanner http://www.malwarebytes.org/update/

Install then run a quick scan only after updating to the latest definition.Uncheck the trial pro version on setup and remove any found     threats after running the scan. Please post also the result.

:step3: Try clearing your cache files : Free Ccleaner
Ignore the Registry feature of Ccleaner as it is not recommended or needed.

:step4: Download Adwcleaner by Xplode from here.
Click on Adwcleaner and hit the Scan button and will begin to search for PUP and malicious files. Once finished click the Clean button. Copy and paste the log  on your next reply.

:step5: Download JRT by thisisu from this link.
Make sure to disable your antivirus or any running protection softwares before running JRT to avoid interferences.
For Vista and Windows 7, right-click and Run as Administrator. In XP, double click JRT icon.
Please be patient and let the program finish scanning.
Once finish, a text document will open then copy-paste it on your next reply.

:exclame: Please check for a more recent audio, video drivers and softwares (reinstall) if available directly only from the support site.

      How's the computer running?

Hey jhayz,

Took the steps that you suggested.

1) MSE did not find anything

2) Malwarebytes did not find anything.

3) Cache files were cleaned.

4) Adwcleaner seemed to find some things, but I didn't want to remove them... they didn't seem harmful. See here:

When running Steam, it crashed multiple apps again, all at the same time. Also, one of the tools seemed to break my Google Hangouts plugin that I use frequently, and it had to be re-installed.

Based on the above information, what would the next steps be?

Thank you!

Well, it turns out that the issue was caused by Asus QuickGesture. After uninstalling it and testing for a while, that seemed to do the trick.

Only downside is that since the software doesn't exist, it seems to cause a quirk with the mouse software, and Elan Smart-Pad doesn't start up right away in the background, so all my click settings default to the "touch" click (just touching the touch pad causes the mouse pointer to click) until I open the software under Control Panel > Hardware and Software > Mouse > Elan > Clicking Elan Smart Pad > Options > Then just clicking OK on the Elan dialog box that comes up.

Just have to figure out a way to get that to run on startup and I'll be good. But, I'm glad to report that this strange issue is fixed! :) Thank you for all of your help!
