I can hear my disk being accessed constantly for periods of time up to 20 minutes. This disk access does not stop when I try to use the computer and it slows down whatever else I may be doing. How do I find out what it causing the constant disk access? How can I disable it or postpone it?

It may be malware I would run superantispyware, malwarebytes and your AV to see what turns up.
