I got an error today "Windows Defender encountered an error 0x80508018. After that I noticed that MSASCui.exe was drawing most of the CPU, as viewed from Windows Task Manager, Processes list. I have not noticed the MSASCui.exe program before. I read this program was run at start up. Anyone shed any light on this? Thanks.

Here is an article from BC reference on this

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/M....exe-14484.html

It is needed. I would suggest running a HijackThis to see if your computer is infected. You could try to reinstall Windows Defender over itself and there is a problem with Windows Defender that it does not like getting its updates. I happen to know the fix for this and it is at the following link.

Error message after you reinstall Windows Defender Beta 2: “Windows Defender definitions haven’t been updated”

A little hint you can copy and paste the statement into the run box instead of typing it just make sure you do not put the coma in at the end.

Please read this guide before actually doing the procedure
And it has all of the links for downloads you need.
