Hello

My husband uses Chrome and it is running very slow. Firefox seems unaffected.

 I recently wiped my computer after a nasty virus and have been trying out various security systems recently trying to decide what I want to buy. Currently using trial version of Avast. I am guessing that I need to take some of those off and would love any advise to get rid of unnecessary programs. I am looking at you, HP!

In looking at other threads I read potential helpers like to have people download and run speccy and minitoolbox to spot what is wrong. Thanks in advance for your help, A

here are my minitoolbox results:

@abzurdly zane

You should only have one active antivirus installed at any time.  Multiple antivirus programs can cause false positives, it can even cause your computer to become unstable resulting in BSODs.

Your D: drive has 0% free space.  It is full.

How did you reinstall Windows?

Is Firefox running slower than Chrome your only problem?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Hello Arachibutyrophobia

Ah-ha! Your comments jogged my memory that I just changed to a new trial version of Avast and forgot to disable the firewall.

I knew two firewalls are a no-no. Usually I have windows do the firewall and Avast do everything else but I can correct that to have avast do everything including firewall.

I have disabled the various other programs, AVG, trend micro, emsisoft. Do I need to take them completely off?

My D: has been VERY full since 2009 when my computer was new and I likely asked it to back up too much stuff. I get notices but just ignore them. If you want to point me to how to fix that or I could open a new thread.... lame I know

I reinstalled using the Reinstallation DVD that came with the computer. twice. Kind of the nuclear bomb of malware removal.

I corrected the firewall problem and restarted and now Chrome is fast again. I was also getting weird windows telling me I needed to dial up to broadband something or other. That is gone too!

Thanks!

You are the best!
