MacBook OSX 10.6.8 : replaced battery, reloaded everything from install disk and backup; all OK except that iPhoto has apparently decided to go on vacation and it not to be found; attempted to do Other Install from the disk, but there's no iPhoto on there.  What's the deal?  Thanks.

What kind of install disc? A grey recovery disc that came with the computer? Or a "retail" one with a more colorful label that you bought from a store (brick and mortar or online)?

If it is a retail install disc, then iPhoto will not be on that as you had to buy the iLife suite which include iPhoto separately. If it is a retail disc, then you would need to find the recovery disc that came with your computer and use that recover the computer (i.e. Install the OS that came with the computer as well as any included software)...and then use the retail disc to upgrade to Snow Leopard (aka 10.6.x).

If it is a grey recovery disc, then if memory serves, it should include iPhoto withe the recovery/re-install.

Please explain more.

  • Did you have iPhoto before and it is now missing all of a sudden?
  • Did you buy a new Apple computer with iPhoto preinstalled and cannot find it?
  • Did you reinstall your system and now iPhoto has to be reinstalled?
  • What is your MacOS X version?

Any new apple branded computer is supposed to come with iPhoto preinstalled. For older computers iPhoto has to be bought separately from the App Store.

iPhoto should be installed in your "Applications" folder. To search for iPhoto on you Mac, if it went missing, type "iPhoto" into the Spotlight search field:

If iPhoto should have come preinstalled, launch the AppStore and look at the "Purchased" tab, if you can see iPhoto there, ready for redowndownload.
