DNS lookup failed? I have no idea what this is or how to fix it. What do I do?

I was going to call the network administrator, thinking it was my internet company, but then I looked it up and turns out the network administrator of a home computer would be me. That's not going to help anything since I have no idea what I'm doing. So I came here. Help

Click windows button --- type cmd --- on the shortcut, right click and Run as Admin -- type ipconfig /flushdns press enter

click windows button --- Control panel --- under Network and Internet click View network status and tasks -- upper left click change adapter settings -- right click on your connection, Local area connection is if you're wired, Wireless Network Connection if wireless --- click Properties -- click to highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 --- click Properties button -- click Use the following DNS server addresses and in the boxes type 208.67.222.222 as Preferred and 208.67.220.220 as Alternate -- click OK, Close and close network connections -- reboot your computer and try it.

Those 2 things flushed all DNS entries in your DNS cache and then we changed the default DNS servers to OpenDNS servers, some of the best out there. Report back what happens for you.

Damn. Wishing I could vote you up or something. I was having the same problem but someone is posting a link to this post on multiple forums and it certainly fixed the problem for me. Thank you very much, sir! Only thing I noted was my Internet seemed to be slightly slower after doing this but that was likely just because I was anxious and tried connecting to the Internet right away. (As in during startup. x3 That'd slow anything down with so many startup programs) THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Seems you helped others sovle this probleme. I have it too with my new tablet. Have followed your instrucions - and checked them - but unfortunately with no positive result. Do you (or anyone else) have any other suggestions? Tks to all for taking the trouible.

No idea. The ones I listed are for OpenDNS. You could try them and see. If you can ping them they should work just fine.

CAVE DWELLER, you are a GOD!!! But seriously, thanks for the help, is there anything else I should know? Like any side effects for this connection switch? Are you going to be secretly hacking our connection because of our lack of technological intelligence? Thanks!

1st I apologize if I do anything wrong as i only just joined to be truthful to thank you CaveDweller2,

I tried a few different things that came up on my screen after any page didnt load and of course nothing worked, so Google was used and after I had tried about 5/6 different phrases a link came up about this Site and more over this forum,

I started to read fantasy09's  piece but when I came across the  mini toolbox stuff I had to move on, I'm not stupid but stuff to do with these bloody things unless i find it straight forward, forget it.  

So I scrolled and scrolled down and my second bit of unbelievable good luck was your post,  and had my Laptop back to how it was in a matter of minutes.

You should write those information / directions folk get with new things but never make sense.

I have been having the bad_config problem for a while now and I did what cavedweller2 recommended but all it does (when I don't restart my laptop) is allow me on the internet for a few minutes and the the problem arises again. When I do restart my computer, I don't get the internet for a few minutes as the bad_config problem is their from the start.
