Brief summary of whats been going on the last year or so. For the longest time I had been using 2 by 2Gb OCZ Reaper DDR2 6400 RAM. 4 GB total. Then about over a year ago my computer would just completely lock up. Nothing was even being processed. No loading sounds coming from the computer. Little red light that indicates traffic would be off. So I'd have to reset the computer over and over, but it wouldn't happen every time. Sometimes I would get lucky and not have problems for months. Then it started happening again more frequently so I contacted OCZ through their forums. They recommended me certain timings of 5-5-5-15 making timing was 2T and to clear the CMOS prior to this so it was a fresh start. Seemed for work for awhile and then it happened again. During the down time when I didn't have my OCZ RAM inserted into my computer I would run four 512Mb sticks of Corsair XMS2 DDR2 RAM. 2GB total. Though a little slow since Im running Windows Vista ultimate 64 bit SP2. Those sticks never failed me. Computer would be a little slow, but would always work and I never got the hang ups like with the OCZ ram. I ended up just sending it back to them for a refund since they no longer produce RAM. Kept using my Corsair RAM until I bought 2 G Skill 2 by 2GB RAM. 4GB total. Before I installed them I cleared the CMOS and computer seemed to be back and running well. Then the same thing happened again. The computer would do exactly the same thing when I had my OCZ RAM in. I then thought that maybe something was overheating and locking up the computer. I undusted everything in computer. Fans, Case, CPU fan, ect. I even put new thermal paste on my CPU and reseated the CPU hoping that it may just been the CPU overheating. Though it never seemed to get that hot. After that I cleared CMOS again and restarted the computer after I put everything back together. After a few hours it did the same thing. Now I am here trying to figure out whats been going on with my computer for the last year and half or so. Im almost tempted to buy another set of G SKill and see if just running 4 sticks of RAM would solve the problem since the corsair RAM seems to work. Thanks. Hoping for answers.

Hi,

Assume that you're running a desktop. How old is the power supply? What sort of temperatures are you seeing for the CPU, etc.?

Thanks

My cpu runs between 39-41 degrees Celsius under normal load. My gpu is sitting at 37 degrees celsius. HDD is at 28 degrees celsius. The motherboard is sitting at 15 degrees celsius. My power supply is probably 7 years old. I recently just reset the cmos. Restarted the computer. Let it load up. Turned off Internet connectivity. Then just played skyrim for over 2 hours and nothings happened. No freezing or nothing. The only reason I turned off the Internet was because most of the time it freezes is when I'm using Google Chrome or Internet Explorer.

It seems that chome maybe the culprit after looking at pages and pages of people describing the same thing that I have been experiencing. Im going to try and run on IE for a bit and see how things go. I wont rule out other possibilities.

Hi,

Firefox might also be a viable choice.

Keep us posted

So I woke up this morning and saw that my monitor had been turned off, which I thought was weird. So I turned it on. Tried to move my mouse. Computer was locked up like usual. Must have happened late last night. The thing I dont understand is that if it was related to a bad power supply why does my Corsair XMS2 RAM not give me any problems, but these other sets of RAM did. So confused.

Please post the PSU brand and wattage next time.

Download SecurityCheck.exe from Here

. Run SecurityCheck and follow the instruction from inside the code box.
. When the scan is finished, a notepad will automatically open as check.txt
Please copy and paste the contents here on your next reply.

Try downloading Speccy and then install the program.  To post and publish a snapshot of your PC.

:step1: Install the latest video driver version from here. Remove the current driver and then use the clean/custom install option from the setup.

:step2: Run Windows error checking tool. Post of any results next time.

:step3: Remove current antivirus using AVG Removal Tool. Remove also any PC optimizers and registry cleaners installed.

How's the computer running? If the problem persist...

:step4: Update the motherboard BIOS version from here. The last BIOS date is ID 11 | 05/26/2008. How to update the bios? Disregard the flash utility option and read FAQ and or how to update BIOS instructions.

It's either it is corrupted or previously installed is not completely removed/current version is outdated. I don't recommend or use AVG. We can troubleshoot the problem without any protection software installed and replace it with free Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast. AVG has been known to cause stalling problems on web activities.

I did the first three things, but Im going to post a few things here before I try the BIOS update.

1. Is the checkdisk txt file that comes up after restarting the computer.

(since my computer had been working good up until 10 minutes ago I am going to post some event logs that happened near the time of the sudden freeze/stall of the computer in which I was using google chrome. Right now I am using IE9 and havent seem to had any problems)

2. List of a few event logs leading up to the crash of my computer.

So I didn't trust chrome so I've been using ie9. I was trying to attach some event log files and when I clicked attach file button the computer would freeze up as usual. I tried it again after clearing cmos and booting back up. Same thing happened. I don't think the event viewer is really even showing anything though cause I would time when the freeze would occur and then go to event viewer and the event viewer only comes up with events after resetting the computer. There would be no errors or warnings leading up to the freeze.
